What is a good diff shop?
My boss has got a 1971 Corvette that has got a rumble in the diff and needs the pre-load set up in it again so basic overhaul we have a local mechanic thats ment to be rather good but might be better for someone whos specialized at them to have a look i think

+1 , Tony is good or Lea at diffs r us. Tho Tony is cheaper and knows his shit. Either one you wuldn be disappinted, both places r within 500m of each other

What does it normally cost to have one stripped down, checked and assembled.

Thinkin about getting my r200 inspected before i go to all that effort to install it finally

I got Tony to do my diff, he took the old centre out and put the torsen centre in for 280, but I think his pricing is a bit variable (depends how much he likes you). You should get him to do it, but if you are in a rush you might want to take it somewhere else, from what I have heard he isnt super motavated to get Japanese stuff done. In saying that, his work is meant to be the best.

Geartech charged me 3 hours to strip, assess and reassemble my LSD head, which was $180

Geartech are awesome. They do the job right and always get the job done quickly. As Brad just pointed out, they aren't too expensive. My last diff job was slightly more than that with a couple of new bearings and some adjustment on the LSD.

Yeah they only charged me $300 to build my custom gearbox from scratch with uprated syncro's. I supplied the 2 gearboxes and new lsd, they supplied the syncro's, labour and oil.
