New rims - Insurance

i did originally have a set of Volk Racing GT7's but unfortunately they cannot supply them anymore and are too damaged to repair....so this is the choice State insurance have given me.

Not normally the type of rims im in to, it sux but need to make a choice so i can get my car back on the road

Did you buy rims new? If not no way will an insurance company replace with new equivalent and you couldn't really expect them to. If you did buy them new and told them the value at the time then yes they should replace with something of the same standard/value.

I would prefer to settle for a monetary payment, so I could then buy second hand quality wheels when they become available, rather than be forced to by new wheels like those in the OP.

Volk or no go (get difference in $$$). Seriously. Random Chinese wheels will be butter compared to Volk. I certain there is some sort of equivalency in your insurance contract, and the Chinese show wheels are not the same as Volk.

Alibaba should be shut down, I cant believe the companys these $&#$% are so blanatly ripping off, cant build some kind of lawsuit against all the clone factories.

I blame they buyers more than the suppliers, same as their would be less car theft if people weren't willing to buy cheap parts without question. How likely are those wheels to actually have passed any industry standard safety testing?

I bought a pair of TE37 SL's late last year and had a good look at the product brochoure that came with it they don't recommend things like using acid cleaners on there wheels or if they get chipped as such they don't recommend them to get repaired that nulled the warranty on them straight away I was quite shocked actually.

I agree with you, and didnt mean my post to come across as only blaming the sellers.

People who support knock off parts, and stolen cars, need to be accountable too, but the reality is that there are so many young people out there these days that would prefer to have all their money to themselves, and buy stolen parts and knock off JDM parts, instead of working hard and saving for them, a value which clearly want instilled in them by the parents as they were brought up.

i do agree that blatant replicas / use of trademarks etc is shit, but there is a place for cheap stuff.
