Wheel size/offset for 79 AE70

Postby BattleSnayke » Wed Sep 05, 2012 10:12 pm

Hey,

I'm ordering some new wheels for my AE70 and just trying to figure out how wide I can go with minor guard work.

Does anyone know what offset I would need to run 15x9 on the rears?

I'm thinking 15x9 -5 rear and 15x8 -10 front.

Cars slightly lowered, not slammed and can fit 15x8 -15 but didn't check strut clearance.

the lower the offset the less you have to worry about strut clearance as it pushes the wheel outwards.

will be a bit of guard work with anything over a 15x8 0 offset, but wont have any inner issues

Cheers, someone else pointed me to www.willtheyfit.com. Just going to measure current strut clearance and compare. I think 15x9 -5 should be sweet, had 15x8 -15 with just rolled guards before so the guard clearance I'm not so worried about.

You wont be able to cert a 15x9.

Why would I bother with a cert? Cops won't give me a ticket because my wheels are too wide an tyres are too stretched. I don't have adjustable suspension or anything else that requires a cert. Passed last WOF with 15x8 with 195/45/15 tyres.

Technically 25mm track change will require cert if you have rolled or modded guards, pretty much anything less than around 15P offset on a 70 series Corolla from memory.

Ah I see, wouldn't bother. Had 15x8 -10 and never had any trouble. Been pulled over and been through WOF.

Yeah, I know I'll never be able to cert my car on these wheels, unless it magically becomes legal to stretch a 195/45/15 on a 9" wheel.

Must have a sweet motor/setup in it to justify 9" wide wheels??

so you will cert on other rim/tyre combo, then fit your stupidly wide/stupidly stretched combo, and when the 5-0 pull you up, you will drop the certifier in it, not unlike one of the CHCH cert crew ??
correct me if i am wrong.

Probably has nothing else to be certed on the car and a lot of WoF guys would pass it, certifiers are covering themselves pretty well with photos these days thuogh due to these sort of situations.

can you really imagine someone owning an AE70 with a 3/4AU ??

Car still has 3AU in it, will put a 4AGE in at some point but it's fine for now, only just ticked 100,000kms. I have no need for more power, the car goes the speed limit and I have no interest in street racing.

I've ordered my new wheels, 15x9 -3 rear and 15x8 -3 fronts. I've gone for Work Meister CR01 with a gunmetal center and polished lip. The same as this;

I'm sure it's not everyone's cup of tea.

I have no interest in dropping anyone in anything. I always take responsibility for anything I choose to do on my car.

I wish, one day it will have more power, but I doubt it would be enough to justify a 9" wheel. I have no intentions of ever stripping this car down and turning it into a track car, I like having 'most' of the car original + a few changes.

I expect a lot of criticism for choosing to modify my car in this way, and I'm happy for people to let me know their opinion, you don't need to hide behind a troll face.

I obviously didn't buy them for the performance, they are merely cosmetic.
