I've had an external hooked up but not working for a couple of years now (i know i know i'm bloody lazy).

Anyway, do they seize up? The reason I ask is that I have the turbo off at the mo, and was trying to push the diaphram by hand, and couldn't make it move at all. It's a 14psi spring.

If it is seized, am I likely to be able to dissasemble and reassemble after freeing it up, or are there springy things that will go everywhere and I'll never get it together again?

What brand is it? They're not exactly easy to open by hand so may be perfectly normal. I've seen a couple seize up but they were cheap china shit. Never skimp on your wastegate IMO.

Disassembly is easy. there are only ~5 parts to most wastegates. Hold the unit tightly shut in a vice/clamp. Remove the ring of allen key bolts around the top cover and carefully separate it from the lower cover (carefully because the spring is very strong and will be working to launch the cover off violently - you don't want this)

yea they can be really hard to try and push open by hand!! if its a good brand like tial i wouldnt worry but yea careful taking the screws off as the spring has some power behind it, i wouldnt bother taking it apart if its a good brand as it will be fine,

I guess if I put everything back together, then have to take it all apart and spend $400 on a Tial gate it will be lesson learned.

if its sezied closed you would be free boosting as it wouldnt open when the spring pressure is hit

if it was stuck open then you wouldnt hit boost at all

As above, it's never been used. There is no pressure line going to it.

So you have an external gate but no pressure line hooked up

are you still running the internal ?
