Some info and pics of the RC model:

The RC Spec will be void of the usual perks like air conditioning and cup holders, as well as the underfloor, intake manifold cover, and boot lamp. The fascia cover and plastic covering for the steering wheel and gear shifter were also stripped. The exterior also gets minimized with unpainted front and rear bumpers, exterior mirrors, and door handles, and the 17" alloy wheels were replaced with 16" steel wheels. As a result, the GT 86 RC Spec is about 60kg lighter and consumes less fuel than the standard GT 86.

The Toyota GT 86 RC Spec is powered by the same 200 HP 2.0 liter, naturally-aspirated petrol engine found in the standard model, but only a six-speed manual transmission will be available to partner with it. The limited slip differential also gets tossed out to save weight.

The Toyota GT 86 RC Spec will be joined on the Japanese market by G Spec, GT Spec, and GT Limited versions.

Hang on it's an RC model but the biff the diff to save weight? I guess they figure people will fit a more aggressive LSD then. But what if you run it in a production class where they don't allow that? Assuming there is one

Just thinking outside the rectangle...
When talking to the guy at the Subaru dealer they were saying they were getting in the BZR/86. I'm not sure if he was pulling my leg or what, but I guess they'll be doing different models like the 86, GT86, TRD so it might be easier to get one of them?
Not sure if the warranty etc is the same, worse or better with either company?

I thought Subaru were only bringing in a few premium ones and that was it?

Maybe, but one with the 2.5 STI motor, wheels, Brembos and other goodies from the STI hatch would be awesome! I hope Subaru do this.

Has anyone asked a Toyota dealer when/ if the RC version will be available?
I'm looking at ordering a base 86 in white manual. Depends if it is a lot cheaper than 40k?

Drove one this afternoon, quite a let down to be honest - very nice looking car, but prefer to drive old 86's. One funny/cool feature was the pipe thingy that goes straight from the inlet pipe to the cabin vent to give the impression of massive intake roar.

They went down a bank up the port hills on a test drive, sales person was with them at the time, said they tried to take a corner at around 60kph and took it to wide, hit some road grit and lost it, hit a couple of trees on the way down, lucky to be alive

Long way down off Dyers Pass Road. Used to drive it every day when I lived in Governors Bay. Saw the results of a few cars that went over the side in different spots.
