question about underseal

Hey all, as some *all* of you guys know its my goal to own an sti in the next year or so. I was doing some research and came accross some info that all the special edition spec c's and ra's of the modern shape (GD) dont have underseal protection. I was wondering how serious this is from a long term ownership point of view? surely if you lived on the coast in welly or similar this could cause really bad rust issues right?> or am I missing something?

Are they talking underseal or sound deadening?

In either case, plenty of cars don't have underseal. If its painted then it shouldn't need it, though that never seems to be the case. Living by the sea will just lead to surface rust, mainly on the seams more than anything. Not usually a big deal.

no underseal or stone chip guard. Sound deadening is reduced

Salt on the roads. Amazing at clearing away ice. Equally amazing at rotting every car on the road.

wait so your saying a lack of underseal or chipguard on an NZ car would not cause it to corrode faster?

The UK is the only place that still uses salt.

Don't worry about underseal, it isn't an issue.

Wouldn't think so, would probably require abit more care in keeping it clean? To ease your mind.

Unless it had stone chips, no faster than anywhere else on the car. A coat of chipguard or similar and a quick waterblast underneath every week or two would be good insurance if you're worried.

I doubt they would skimp on underseal if it meant the cars would rust away to nothing. I'm sure you would have come across many cases of the cars falling apart if it was a problem.

However, if it IS the case, by the time you actually go to get one, they'll all have rusted away and been turned into soup cans so you won't have to worry.

you can actually buy it from repco etc too if its a big issue to you

i resealed the underside of my evo2 rs and i used about 1.5 litres of it....
