Epic Supra build

Some of you may have seen this before, but here's a link anyway. I have only read the first couple of pages but talk about commitment!

Basically, Australian guy want's to rebuild JZA80, not happy with Australian workshops, so sends the car along with almost every TGP part imaginable to the USA to have a "brand new" supra built.

Talk about throwing everything he could think of at it - it would be interesting to see how the car drives, the twin sequential twin scroll quick spool valve turbo setup I would have thought was a pub talk thing if I hadn't seen a few of the pics etc in my skim over it, this dyno plot suggests full boost at just over 3000rpm (if you ignore the sequential valley of death) and 800whp on a low reading dyno though. Crazy:

I find it funny how he states that Porsches are expensive and supras are cheap and then throws a Porsche and half worth of money at a supra.

Also the manifold is very odd, I wander why they joined each runner together in the beginning?

just to see the look on the Toyota dealer's face when i bring in a relic and simply point at them and go OI YOU and then point at the car - MAKE IT NEW AGAIN

Making it new would be a fraction of that build cost. He could've bought around 6-7 of those <5,000 KM examples from Japan if he wanted to lol

I really love what he did with the rear seat delete. very impressive. Also love the way he didn't cover the whole damn interior with gauges.

Welp, if you can't buy a new JZA80 i guess you can always build one. I'm only up to page 4 and looking at the OEM parts hes brought i'd guess it's already cost him more than a new one.

Where do you start $300 K I think it'll surpass that with ease.To me it looks like he has bought everything new every last part.

I'm guessing theres at least $100 K in the engine build alone.

Without clicking the link, this surely has to be Infernos build.

Committment beyond committment to take a build as far as he did. The amount of time needed just to work out the part numbers would have almost been a fulltime job.

It must feel so nice to pull the door closed against all those new door rubbers, and to have the interior smell like the day it rolled off the factory floor.

Lots of money spent, and you have to give it to the guy for doing it once and doing it right.

yeah I really would love to see what it was like to hear the door thud like it did new from factory.

Also I cant see it costing much more than 300k. I mean maybe 350k including the 2 cars.

This build just doesn't compute in my head.
Maybe thats because I don't have hundreds of thousands lying around to waste.
Don't get me wrong, I'm impressed, BUT WHY!

Man I would have gone for the Cosworth/Jun 3.2 litre stroker if I was to stroke a JZ with that guys budget.

I'll say this that guy is committed I'll give him that.

He seems to be the ultimate chequebook racer(?)... It doesn't once mention that he lifted a single nut or bolt, except maybe taking delivery of them.

In saying that, as above, the dedication to get the parts ordered, and the unholy amount of emailing and phone calling he must have done during the build defies belief.

I also can't fathom how he could afford this thing that would have cost as much as a house, while still studying?!?!?

One question, where does the 7th (centre) exhaust header go?

he isnt still studying, as it states in the first post it says that he had just graduated when he initially decided to buy the supra.

The build looks to have taken about 4 years in total from first purchase to finish, if he was a lawyer or accountant or similar it is possible he could have paid for it himself slowly over the years. Maybe his family gave him the money. Either way I say good on him, it was his dream car and he gets to live it every day. Also a heck of a lot more imagination than buying a dime a dozen gt3 or similar.
