Losing my clutch after hard acceleration

I lose my clutch after any kind of decent acceleration, it doesn't lose fluid but needs a good bleed to get it back to normal. Any ideas?

Hi there, after any amount of acceleration, the clutch should still remain to the left of the brake pedal. If it has moved from there, I suggest you are no longer in the car.

as you said, bleed the clutch fluid first and check for leaks.
Alternatively check the clutch pedal cage and see if the pedal is sticking at all, spring is loose or if the cage is cracked or broken.

Explain what you mean by lose. Does the pedal not disengage the clutch?

Its a simple fairly generic hydraulic system on pretty much any Toyota for a start... So without knowing the exact car, its possible some general knowledge is whats going to be of most use to me but cheers for being a buch of dicks about a simple oversight while I was in hurry.

Its an 87' AE92 Trueno with a 4AGZE engine, has the factory 4AGZE 5 speed LSD gearbox.

If I accelerate hard I lose some of my clutch pedal travel and if its for to long I have to rebleed my clutch, every time. I don't lose any fluid, there is no leaks I can see, have pressure tested the system etc. seems to stay normal with normal driving and can feel my clutch pedal come back a bit normally after a few uses of the pedal.

This is an odd problem if anyone has encountered it I imagine they will remember, please if your that person, help me .

Check the pedal housing, it is possible that it is cracked and not allowing for the full pedal travel. The pedal housing on my old Celica broke/cracked, when I pushed the clutch pedal in it didn't feel like it was working properly, I would have to pull the pedal back up with my foot and press it again.

Just had the pedal housing welded back up and was good as new again (was the third mechanic that figured it out, the first two said my clutch was stuffed and that I'd need a new one.


For future reference just be abit more descriptive/helpful and you shall receive the same back.

What fluid are you running? How old is it? How are you bleeding the system? Are you absolutely sure there are no leaks? What does the pedal feel like when this happens? Spongy? Nothing there at all? What does it do if you don't "accelerate hard"? Does your hard acceleration involve changing gears? If so how quickly are you changing gears? Does it do the same thing if you take off slowly in say 2nd gear then plant foot and accelerate (no gear change)? What sort of clutch do you have? Does the problem occur only when you let the clutch out quickly to accelerate? Have you checked that fluid isn't bypassing your master cylinder piston?

Any bubbling paint on the booster where the m/c bolts?

yea could it be something to do with booster? revs related rather than actual acceleration related maybe? sorry dont know much about boosters...

Generally no vacuum booster on a clutch...

Don't think its the master cylinder as thats almost brand new and its not that sort of problem. Pedal housing is fine... Definitely related to extended periods of engine load, stupidly annoying problem.
