What decent 225/40/18 tyre around $200-250?

Postby ~SlideWays~ » Wed Oct 31, 2012 1:13 pm

I'm looking at changing the wheels on my JZX100 Chaser, it currently has 18x8's with crappy tyres (bought it like that). I was looking at going for a 17" wheel so the tyre prices are better, but I'm not having much luck finding a wheels I like.

So now I'm thinking maybe I stick with 18's and see what options there are for tyres.

I usually have tyres like Dunlop Direzza's, Toyo T1R's and Adrenalin RE001's for good road tyres but they are damn expensive in 18" but OK in 17".

What sort of options are there in 18" below the above models that are still decent but not useless in the wet etc?

Any suggestions?

Had a mate who recently had the same dilemma.

He ended up going for a set of Goodyear eagle f1 d5's, and is very impressed with them. Paid around the $230 mark.

Funnily enough, I got a quote for a 245/40/18 in the D5's today, and it was a shade over the $300 mark, so the 225's would likely be in your price range
1988 KE70 Wagon - Slowly rusting
1990 NA6 MX-5 - because reasons
2018 Ranger - Because workcar
1997 FD3S RX-7 Type R - all brap, all the time
OMG so shiny!

I've just picked up a couple 225/40R18 GT Radial HPY tyres

They're asymetrical, my work are agents so I got them for an OK price, not sure what retail is. The last GT Radials I had were shit, but thought I'd give these a try. No real opinion on them yet, as I haven't taken the car for a good fang.

Nitto nt555 is my recommendation. not sure on pricing in that size but wouldn't be far off. magnturbo are the agents so will get them for the best price.

they have the grip of a t1r but actually last well and are good in the wet..

Cheers guys, those Nitto's might be an option I'm sure I've seen them in Mag & Tyre.

What about Toyo's 'below' the T1R grade, are they worth looking into at all?

Seemed alright on my old Clio 172. Had a full brand new set fitted and used to hit Dyers Pass Road hard every day.
