New Lexus Super Sedan V8 Supercar?

People seem to forget that V8SC is not a case of blocking everyone else so they have a chance at touring car class but rather a whole new series with different rules.

I remember the old days of touring cars, nissan mobil 500 & Rothmans 500, wgtn street race and the pukekohe round, and yes the fords and commodores were in there too but that series died a natural in Australasia and in its place the V8SC series was born. They are exclusive series not one that turned into the other. The series is always keen to welcome other marques but they must fit to the V8SC rule book and that is where discussions break down (AFAIK)

In reality if toyota wanted to join in the fun they would probably have to build a non production wider/longer rwd version of a camry then throw an old toyota century V8 to meet the basic requirements and for the costs involved its probably of no interest to toyota/lexus, DTM on the other hand, head to head with bmw/audi/merc.....

That was tossed up merging the fastest tin top series in the world with Super GT aka GT500 Japan and DTM I've seen in it mags but it obviously hasn't progressed as I think both sides could'nt get an agreed formula soughted.

It has a name now. The Lexus LS650TMG.

Twin turbo 5 litre v8 600+hp top speed of 200mph.

Now they just have to make it.

This covers current V8SC rather than COTF, but all is basically says is that valves have to be opened mechanically and closed with valve springs.

Super GT and DTM have aligned rules from 2014 or 15. Wa talk of one of the American GT series jumping on board as well

The front of the Lexus has been beaten with the ugly stick too, and needs to lose the vents. The IS-F is looking a bit soft now, but I like how understated Lexus usually are but still with a bit of presence.

I don't think the vents are just cosmetic, they look like they're functional so must serve a cooling purpose.
But think they could do with a redesign & new placement.

I like the pumped arches, but the way it blends in to the front bumber, makes the front bumper look like a pushing ram of somesort.

It’s exciting to see something like this, would think a hard core LS makes sense as it’s a spot they can realistically challenge BMW and Mercedes properly as BMW do not build a M7 and the S class AMG is not that hard core.

Is there a market for a hard core LS though? That will be interesting.

Let’s hope it goes into fruition and Lexus build more hard core F series cars, I hear the face lift ISF is not to bad and the new “F-Sports” GS is a decent drive.



PS I would take a "prehistoric" Chev V8 over any Jap crap or Euro trash V8, light, simple, cheap, reliable and strong, its the worlds number 1 race engine for a reason.

This will be interesting.

Nissan have a twin cam, multivalve V8 thats going to play in a pushrod V8 sandpit. Now, Bill Sherwood sighted a racing program where small ford pushrod engines given full race prep were used. These engines where becoming hard to find so someone used the same displacement, but twincam to replace it. With minor modifications, the twincam began to dominate. Eventually, the twincams were only alowd limited modifications so that they didnt outpace there racepreped pushrods.

By using the above comparison I would say a full racepreped twin cam Nissan and racepreped Ford/Holden engines is that the Nissan WILL dominate. If anything, it will demonstrate that twin cams make more torque through the rev range even tho both make the same horsepower.
And torque is far harder to control than horsepower for "parity".

I hope TMG do gain some traction and produce a few road going specials just as they used to do as TTE, I had a TTE Lexus and it was a very well sorted car from the ground up, much more convincing than TRD as a company.
