interesting... the road code seems to imply that no matter what kind of crossing you need to slow down in order to be able to stop if required, but the legislation itself doesn't seem to say this.

If I am wrong, I take it all back... sue them!!! :wink:

No you are right, it's just at a controlled crossing you can rely on the bells etc to provide warning of trains. You still have to be able to stop in half the clear distance in front of you but the train would be at fault for entering a crossing without the bells working. Effectively the same as a set of traffic lights.
