What about a mazda 6/Atenza?

Most people seem to compare them to the accord euro. Plus they're chain driven so no worries there, and the 2.3's seem to have a bit of up and go to them.

Since we have a thread on wagons... what makes a good tow wagon other than a falcoon/commonwhore, and preferably, is also good on gas when not towing? Trying to decide what the replacement for the mondog might be once i run it into the ground, and something with towing ability might be useful if the mr2 hasn't been put into a wall by then.

Does it need to be big? The WRX fits all of your requirements bar the cruise control, but obviously isn't the largest wagon out there. Love mine

Good luck with that, most wagons (other than Falcodores) have very shit tow ratings.

Not so. They might just be a bit above the stated price for the km's wanted, and in top nic tho.
I got 7L/100km on a trip from New Plymouth to Auckland a few months back. And this is without "nana" driving, and loaded with the family (wife, two kids, all there gear, etc).
Got there and back on one tank of petrol.

I'm glad your getting a practical car now. I had to do that too. Got rid of the xr8 and got an atenza 2.3ltr. The 2ltr was too gutless for my liking.

Of the two you've listed, accord (2.4) is my pick Chalkie.

I found the Accord (albeit in sedan form) a much better appointed car than a 6 (though I guess there was quite a difference in new cost) and certainly a bunch quicker, with not a huge difference in fuel efficiency.
If I were to buy a new daily, the Mazda would certainly be up there though, they're certainly very nice to drive and have plenty of space.

Thank guys - Sold on an accord just for bang for buck and simplicity over the subaru (fwd etc)

Not in a rush so will keep an eye out for the right one, want to take my time and shop around.
