ST215 Stereo - done to death but...

Postby xsspeed » Sun Feb 12, 2012 1:46 pm

Trying to suss out a stereo for the mrs' caldina.
It's a GT model, and has the GPS fold up screen at the top of the centre dash, and a double DIN stereo.

Now the double DIN stereo in there doesn't play CD's for some reason and needs a band expander anyway, plus the GPS/Nav/TV screen doesn't work in NZ anyway.

Has any one put a headunit into one of these? There is a lot of wiring going between the headunit and GPS - too much to just be for the input to the speakers so I am thinking that perhaps some of the power supply etc comes through this interconnecting loom.

Caught in two minds about whether to buy a pop out screen and make it fit in the place of the GPS unit, or just get one of the cubby hole covers and put that there, and then just run the stereo as per normal - and forget about the redundant wiring.

Also the double DIN stereo appears to have two separate aerial input pins - one could be TV? has anyone (SNWTOY?) come across this on their stereos in the GTT's etc?

Cheers guys
Steve

from memory the GT-T's had a TV/SAT-NAV aerial in one rear window and the Radio antenna in the other
it was like 7-8 years ago when i ripped all the crap from mine so am a bit fuzzy on it
mine didnt have all the satnav/screen rubbish in it so was a bit more straight forward

just remember to hook up the factory radio aerial amplifier thingee when putting in the new stereo or be faced with shitehouse reception

might be one of those hack the loom and just find wires that you need and bin the rest jobs..

Yeah I was following the wires between the stereo and TV/gps most seem to follow through on corresponding plugs, so I can either remove or just leave the plugs unattached (will probably just do this)

I'll wire in the new stereo I think, and check I can get that working properly, and then disconnect the screen.
