Yes another 4AFE ~ 4AGE 20v BT help thread!

Postby Ledge` » Sat Feb 09, 2013 4:57 pm

I have spent time searching on here for answers and Google'd for answers but all I can find are pretty much ECU pinouts.

I'm another folk jumped on the band wagon for converting the 4AFE ~ the BT 4AGE. There is sentimental value to this car as it was my first car so selling up and purchasing a BZG/R before I began was not on the cards.

SO the scenario, I'm basically done with the conversion itself but like others I'm a tad stumped on the wiring aspects down in front of the ECU where the 4AGE loom meets the body loom. I have been told to cut the blue plug and small white plug from the 4AGE loom and merge it into one using the old blue plug from the 4AFE loom so it will plug into the body loom without fuss.

From the information I have gathered, the wires are all there. It's just a matter of finding which wire does what etc and combining them together.

Car originally was a 1996 Levin XZ (4AFE, automatic)
Donor car was a 1997 Levin BZ-R (had to change to a 5-speed gearbox as one of the 6 speed mounts differ from the pre-facelift chassis).

Also, using the loom and ECU from the BZR.

If anyone who has previously done this swap is willing to share their knowledge that would be tops.

If you still have the old motor and wiring loom then grab a multi meter and test out where the wires go to, most of them should be the same colour even. that would be my first stop if there are no how to guides. That plug should be the likes of air con, auto gearbox, gauges, power to coil, igniter and injectors I think. There is also a good chance you can pop the wires out of the plug and put them back into the other plug so no need to join them
"You can't do it like that!." "Why not?"

I'm presuming both looms are AE111
If both looms are manual (or both auto) then it should be plug and play
I.E. remove 4afe loom, replace with 4age loom
Plug body loom into ECU
Be happy
Ewan has done this in the past
I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

The engine loom I am using was from a 6-speed BZR, wanting to mate with the body loom from the 4AFE which was automatic.

It is not plug and play as to why I am asking

Appreciate the replys guys. Have got the pen and paper out, looks like I'll have to remove the engine loom and attempt at figuring which wire does what. :(

Would it sound right to match the colours, seeing as all looms are from an AE-111 chassis?

Yeahh mate that is the one! When you left I remembered what you were telling me and thought that was you'r BZR on here, matching the stories. :P
How is she these days?

Still any help with the wiring much appreciated. Anyone who can save me the trouble of removing the loom again and cracking out the multimeter. :P
