Heh. as part of a job i used to do, I had to rate the corners and tell them what speed sign to put up.

Let me explain:
I'd go around a corner at 3/4 set speeds, lets say 70, 80, 90, i'd choose the speeds at my discretion. I'd then proceed to do the corner at the speed and record the lateral force via a ball bank meter. That'd then correspond to a advisory speed on a graph. Bam, Sign goes up. *shrug*.

used to have fun attempting the corners at crazy speeds. also, my fault about the brenderwyns being an 80 now, but that's another story :/

No wonder you put that in such a small font!!

In Targa we usually at least double the advisory sign but even though there isn't supposed to be anything coming the other way, there might be or else the guy just in front of you might have got it wrong so you have to allow for those sorts of things....

A driver forced me into a ditch today. Going through a blind corner on my side of the road on a random gravel road. The thing is I saw him ploughing through, about 100m away through trees, and dropped my speed to 15kph before we passed each other. He never made an effort to pull to left so I had to evade and softly park in the ditch. Lucky there was just enough room (bank was 2cm away from mirror).

I turned around and confronted the motherf**er, he said I was speeding (15kph) and because I was speeding he didn't see me (when he passed me I was already "parked" in the $&#$% ditch). Then he said it was OK that he was in middle of road, as he was driving slow, and that he always drives very slow. The conversation was going nowhere and after checking out my car, I concluded there is no damage, so we parted our ways.

He is a $&#$% muppet and should not be allowed to drive. It infuriates me that he was thinking that he was doing OK because he was slow. WTF????

I am going to make police report tomorrow (already made roadwatch report, but that is basically worthless)....

Guess the nationality/race of the driver

Nah definately highest cornering speed  . iirc his words were along the lines of "only Michael Schumacher could go around faster without falling off the road" or something to that effect.

Hang-on, a driving instructor told you the advisory speed signs on corners are displaying the critical curve speed? IF I was taking that course, I'd have walked out immediately, because he clearly knows absolutely nothing about the dynamics of roads, or what critical curve speed really is.

Wishful thinking...

There is a very interesting table on wikipedia, just compare the speed limits of first world countries vs third world, and see where NZ falls in:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed_limits_by_country

We fall in with 3rd world group :( .

I hear there is no speed limit in Russia. So long as you have consumed a 1125ml bottle of vodka. :P

Russia is a very horrible place to drive.
1) Complete utter disregard for human life
2) Complete utter disregard for road rules
3) Corruption leads to bought licences
4) Too many scam artists looking for trouble
5) Horrible road conditions
6) Drunks behind the wheel

Bar the bought licences, they're pretty uncommon. Most people just don't worry about them full stop
1988 KE70 Wagon - Slowly rusting
1990 NA6 MX-5 - because reasons
2018 Ranger - Because workcar
1997 FD3S RX-7 Type R - all brap, all the time
OMG so shiny!

Interesting that the first place to get a 90km/h limit was SH2 out of Tauranga, and the reason was simply cost. The road in question was destined to be a 4 lane highway, Transit NZ has purchased all the land at great expense, but there wasn't money in the budget to build the road, so they reasoned that slowing traffic down would improve flow :?

The same applies to the area around Maramarua, all the land has been purchased or is on compulsory purchase order, but no money to build the road.
