Various carib model info wanted

Howdy, Just wandering if there were any carib model gurus out there that can help with a few questions ?

Basically was toying with the idea of one as a replacement daily but was not entirely sure what is what on different ones...


What is the difference between the s or z touring models ?

As far as fwd vs 4wd goes I thought all 1800cc ones were only 4wd ?
20v ones are only fwd ?
4afe ones either fwd or 4wd ?

Anyone driven both the fwd and 4wd 4afe option to compare ?
I have driven fwd 4afe powered corolla wagon and went alright for what is was but not sure if the 4wd option saps much go or not ?

Whats the driveline like on the 4wd ones ?
Not looking for something to try and launch,race or slide etc but never owned a 4wd car before so does intrigue me a lil. Is the 1600 vs 1800 driveline the same or bigger on the 1800 ?

I know the 20v option are the fancy ones but not worried about having the less sporty option if is the better deal etc.


Used to see the odd 2wd and 4wd n/a caldina in manual as another option but do not think they pop up too often now.

Carib's aren't my specialty unfortunately but I do know that the 4WD wasn't just restricted to models with the 7A-FE. It was also available on the 4A-FE model. I've never been sure of the difference between the S Touring and Z touring models as they look the same to me (same lip/sideskirt option, interior, both were available in 4WD and FWD, both had either the 4A-FE or 7A-FE etc), but they must have their difference(s) somewhere.

Yep, the 20v BZ Touring models only came in FWD. They're getting a bit cheaper these days and it's pretty easy to find an unmodified one. Good power for towing/hauling loads but needs to be run on at least 95 octane.

20v good for towing and hauling stuff? Do they run different gearboxes or something in the caribs? I just find it hard to believe with the piss all torque a 20v has. i've towed with mine, and I would never say it would be a good option. They just don't have the guts IMO.

As for 4afe, I don't think i'd want to be sapping what power they do have with a 4wd system. Slow enough in 2wd.

Good in comparison to the 4A-FE. Obviously wouldn't be much good at towing a boat, but more than enough power to tow a trailer load of pot plants
