Ha, he seemed quiet big to me when he stood next to us at the Top Gear show, he is 193cm and has a MASSIVE stomach, like 8 months pregnant stomach, rest of him is lanky though.

My list is similar but no doubt for different reasons

Its more that I have never been in the right place to buy/justify one and now I out matured them. Still love them though, would have brought a GT86 if it was ready at the end of 2011 and when I buy our next new car it will have to be a more practical family/lifestyle vehicle, so yea, bad timing.

I thing right now, and given different circumstances I would take the 50k a GT86 would cost and drop it on a E46 M3, could build a lightning car with 50k, $30k on the car, 20k on a freshen up and quality tyres, brakes, suspension, exhaust, intake, tune.

Trd do have a supercharger in development for the 86. But, it will probably only give 50hp and cost $8k plus

The door stabiliser set apparently makes it significantly stiffer

If the doors need "stabilising" from brand new, its more of a cock up fixer than a performance part IMO. Im also skeptical hom much stiffer a brace on the doors can make it, 4X10-12mm bolts to mount the door suggest $&#$% all to me.....

Well think about it. The door area is a huge open space. What if you can brace it up a bit more? All cars flex.
So maybe it's not as useless as if first seems

^ Exactly. Currently a door doesn't provide almost anything to the structure of the car (it's a piece of metal sitting loosely in a hole), with the door stablisers you transmit any compressional forces going through the sides of the car through the door as well (so you're using more metal to spread out the forces), which means it stiffens the car up in certain conditions...
Cheers,
Brandon

4 x 10mm bolts is a shit load of strength, if done up properly.

particularly when you're used to cars that have 4 x 6mm bolts holding the front suspension on.

Yeah doors these days are weak as shit, not like they have big bars through them to stop you getting squashed in a side impact or anything.

Make sure you check out the "event" thread for details of the Toyota festival of fun this Sunday. Heaps of 86s will be there including the Toyota NZ TRD.

yes but what ties the door into the door frame? An impact will pull the door bars, they will be very strong that way.
Now, maybe if designed right (It's TRD I hope they are!) they have found a way to make the door catch tolerances so tight they act as a rigid join?
I don't know if they have and they do, but it's what they imply and the theory is there.
Get what I mean?
