1jz-ge into 1990 cressida

Postby bossman » Thu May 23, 2013 5:40 pm

hi, I have a jzx90 that ive crashed with a good 1jz-ge engine. how hard would it be to put this engine into a 1990 cressida. Gbox and engine mounts bolt in? I can do wiring. will the driveshaft bolt in or will i need to find one that will? any other problems i might come accross?
cheers

My advice is don't haha. It will be worth nothing MX83's are very unlikely to ever be a popular car!

it would be easier and cheaper to find a high km aristo or other JZ car and transplant. But if your keen go for the Cressida. as cars age and more drop off the roads some unpopular cars are now sought after.
ughhhhhh....

You can get a JZX81 Mark 2 which is effectively a Jap spec Cressida with a factory fitted 1jz-ge / 1jzgte. Crossmember from one of these would make it a bolt-in. Wouldn't bother personally though, just sell the Cressida and the motor and buy a JZX81 for the same price without the dicking around of doing an engine conversion.

aww I feel like I own something horrible now. I have a mx83 with a 1jzge. price was right and it is a really nice car for long trips.

I know it has the cross member swapped for a 1j out of a crown. and some wiring to get it to work. not sure on the drive shaft. Even the 7m exhaust bolts up to the headers. probably one of the easier swaps that can be done

the facelift mx83 cressida has a jz crossmember, the pre-facelift mx83 doesnt, basically they used the same crossmember in the jzx81 and facelift mx83's, duno why they just did.

its the same with supras and soarers, anything 90-91 with a 7m in it will take a jz direct fit using jz mounts.
