Do you have a 1zz-fe or 2zz manual car? I will buy you beer

Postby molex » Sat May 25, 2013 1:19 am

Could somebody please measure for me the total length of a 1zz-fe?

By that I mean from the gearbox flange to the end of the crank pulley. Should be easy enough to do with a couple of straight edges and a measuring tape...

If somebody has a manual equipped car a total length from pulley to end of the gearbox would be *amazing*

2zz would be interesting, but not very helpful

UPDATE:

Ok so after some additional research the piece I need a measurement on is the length of the bell housing/casing:

This can be on just about anything 1zz OR 2zz powered, 5 speed or 6 speed, as it turns out they all use the same casing. I will buy a box of beer (or $20 into your account) for the first person to accurately measure this.

These are the dimensions i have for a 2zz.
Size (LxWxH) (mm) 652 x 608 x 659

Measurements from this site. http://www.spyderchat.com/enginedetail.htm
Measuring 639 mm (25.2 in) long, 586 mm (23.1 in) wide, and 632 mm (24.9) tall, the 1ZZ-FE is about 25 mm (1 in) shorter than Toyota's own 4A 1.6-L unit. It has a mass of 102 kg (225 lb).

This might also be helpful. http://www.mr2roc.org/misc/referencelib ... igndoc.pdf

Pm'ed
I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

I have read all of those measurements and the design doc, that's actually why I'm looking into this further. According to the cutaway diagram the total length from gearbox flange to end of the pulley is 460mm (measured by scaling from the bore centre which is a known quantity), where as the 4ages in my garage are all 500mm.

Unfortunately the total dimensions listed are probably including the depth of the flywheel and maybe even clutch, hence the huge discrepancy.

I may be able to measure one in about a months time, i'm sure you'll be sorted by then. But if not, fire me a PM.

Thanks to Ken I now have a mostly complete 1zz-fe to measure up, I will report back for future reference.

But pity I hadn't seen this earlier. Got one sitting in the fielder could have measured. Oh that's right, our internet has been playing up :x

So it turns out I'm still missing one critical piece of the puzzle in the crank pulley, however I did gather a couple of measurements which back up my extremely dodgy guess based on the diagram to within a couple mm.

Crispy'86, is your fielder manual by any chance? What I don't know yet is if there's any difference in total length between an A series with C52 and a ZZ with a ZZ specific C5x. Apparently they were able to take some length out of the flywheel/clutch area, maybe that means a shorter gearbox?

I'm hoping that I can wedge a 1zz into an EP chassis, that potential last 10-15mm makes all the difference unfortunately.

I'm thinking I might have to buy a box to try it out.

On my 2zzge 6 speed Runx it is 132mm
I will confirm this in the morning with slightly better light but I'm pretty sure thats within a mm.

That's good news, it's the same as E series C5x box by the looks. The C52 from the 4age is about 10mm longer in that section (and overall)

Okay, think it's worth buying one to test fit then.

If you can confirm tomorrow that would be excellent, if you're feeling in the measuring mood then the total length of the box from bellhousing flange to end of the casing would also be amazing (but not result in any more beer sorry)

Will PM to sus payment :)

I measured both my cars this morning and my 132 mm looks pretty spot on .
Don't worry about payment we are all here for the same thing. :D

Not to be contrary, but I just measured the bellhousing on my 2zz 6speed fielder and it was 149mm from machinded face to machined face (not what you have drawn above- machined face to mount bracket.) I measured twice using varing techniques witht he same result.
