80mm throttle bodies

Hi TS'ers...

Im nearing the end of the road with stockpiling all of my parts to convert to a FFIM on my 2JZ NA-T set up, and one of the few parts Im still yet to buy is the throttle body. If I could use the factory 2JZ TB, I would, as it would be far simpler wiring it all in, but its far too big to be used.

I initially had presumed I would use a Nissan 90mm Q45 TB but after measuring the flange on my new intake manifold, I only have an 80mm opening so need to find something suitable in that size.

Im not interested in buying one of the supershinychina TB's from Tardme that have different metals with different expansion rates and sticky throttles etc, so I would prefer to stick to an OEM TB that I can wire a TPS to easily, and that will be reliable so if anybody has any suggestions on a good 80mm TB, Im all ears.

The GTE TB is 75mm but its way too long and ugly to use.

How big, physically is the 1UZ TB, Shane?

Isnt the 3SGE Altezza throttle body 80mm? But then you have their odd fly by wire setup, But can be converted easily from what I hear

Thats interesting, thanks for the heads up. Can anyone please take a photo and measurement of their TB to confirm?

I guess I also should have mentioned the the bolt holes appear to be 79mm apart, although I need to get my verniers out to get an exact measurement.

I'd be suprised, might have a 80mm opening but i'd be very suprised if it has a 80mm butterfly in it

Reith - the 1UZ TB which is either 70 or 75mm cant recall which is probably half the 2/3rds the length of a JAyZeeGeeTeaEee one

I might have to have a hunt around for one to compare.

The main reason I wanted the Q45 TB is how compact and tidy it is.

Some TB's are just plain hideous lol

on the mrs supra i smashed out the traction control butterfly on the 'gte' TB anmd got holes welded up, but u could just cut it off altogether that way it will be 'short' and your tps etc will fit easy pezy,

2nd not getting a china one, my mate had a jammed open throttle on his 1jz 80m TB, not good times!!!

Last 2jz powered vehicle i worked on, we welded up the traction control holes, and machined it down in a lathe to make it heaps shorter and reasonably tidy for a factory throttle body,
Usually do the same with 1uz throttle bodies

Ive looked at my GTE TB so many times, imagining how much tidier it would look to be without the TC and about 3" shorter... but then swiftly remember that I dont have the tools to do it lol

+1 for cutting it down, i run a TC controlled 1UZ one on my 7m FFIM, and with it cut down and a small lip spun on for the hose clamp to grab its been mint for years

Even if you source one cut it down then take it to a engineers to chuck it on a lathe, wouldnt cost you much

Tui, speights etc 8)

Do you have any images of your one, mate?

I was informed that the Nissan Q45 TB that I had thought wouldnt work is actually suitable as the throat is 90mm but the butterfly is actually only 80mm so I think I will keep hunting for one of those as they are by far the most compact, and tidy choice.

P.S Re: Modifying a factory TB, I dont have any mates in the engineering industry, which always makes things difficult when trying to trade beers for a perky. I tried that once when I needed a small section of intercooler piping welded to my turbo compressor housing, and was told it would cost atleast $100 and would take a week....lolololol
