car in question is a mazda familia (1991 ish?) hatchback

sounded like the ratchet thing was skipping in the window motor so i pulled it out and replaced it.

when i pulled it out i noticed it had already been replaced, it had writing on it that had the model and chassis etc. what they write on them at a wreckers.

now the new one is doing the exact same thing.

you have to assist the window coming up by pushing/pulling it up and down, otherwise it just clicks over, really loud and obnoxious.

i have figured since this is at least the 3rd motor thats been chewed, there must be a problem elsewhere.

perhaps a relay that is supposed to click over when the window gets to the top?

any ideas?[/u]

sorry to make it more clear, the replacement one i put in worked for a couple months and then crapped out.

when the window is fully up, the motor keeps skipping over and you have to turn the auto window up/down switch off manually to stop it

usually caused by dry window slide rubbers.
silicone or similar in the rubber will ease some strain.

And it isn't a problem anywhere else, the window regs in BG Familias all fail eventually.

But what is slipping, the motor gear slipping on the regulator drive are which would be obvious as hell with bad teeth,

or have also seen the motors also slip internally in the worm drive or the gear onto the shaft etc,

so is the refg the problem or the motor?
Did you replace one but bot the other?

A common problem in Mazda's of that age is a poor / corroded terminal connections on the switch.

It generally causes the window to wind up & down slowly. The fix is to sand back the terminals on the switch / plug.

I'm not sure whether this could be related; but you could give the terminal sanding a go and see. Nothing to lose.
