I didn't know about this so safe to say many others didnt either. Might be useful to some.

Note 7

LVV certification is always required for the fitting of a turbocharger as a modification, or the upgrading of a turbo or wastegate

Been around for aaaaaaaaaaaaages. Usually an upgraded turbo will fly under the radar, as the majority of WOF inspectors won't know what's stock. Lairy big external gate will cop a fail though

Wastegate will be plumbed in to the dump pipe so note lairy. Hope it will fly below the radar for a while. Hoops cant be too hard to make/fit can they?

Depends I guess, I know plenty of people who have got WOFs in the past with a plumbed back external, and others who've been pinged. Guess it comes down to how knowledgeable the WOF man is.

Nah they're a piece of piss. Just follow the requirements.
Cert cost is $&#$% all anyway and as long as everything is done right should be a pass.

I'd like the Skyline to be road legal but I'm questioning whether the extra effort/cost is worth it for the few times it will see the road (and probably mostly on the side of the road with a cop looking underneath to tell me how he knows more about what I have formal training in than I do)

Cert cost soon build up if you have to keep renewing it once a year because youve added more stuff to the car, $550-750 a cert? Any links to the loop requirments?

50x5mm plates, 4 x 10mm bolts. No more than 150mm rearward of the front UJ

If you're DS is two piece, you will need to install two, Scott.

You can buy them pre-made on TM, just be sure they are lvv cert friendly as some aren't.

If you do everything (that you have planned) that requires a cert at once you won't need to re-cert as you add more to the car.

Costs more up front but saves you money in the long run. I've even heard of people fitting turbos with no wheels and wastegates with no springs to cars so they don't have to recert when they do the proper swap :lol:

Know any one that will lend me a link and coilovers then? But then Im sure I read a thread where not having the modds in that are certed is just as bad as having modds that arent on there?

^ This is why it's best to do it once and not worry.

Certing twice is almost the cost of an ECU/coilovers. I'd rather wait a few months and save money. I hate doing things/spending money twice.

50x5 strap too, isn't it? And yeah the more piece the drive shaft is, the more loops required.

The rule on wastegates etc has been around for the last 10 years, definitely not a new thing.

Also... "LVV certification is always required for the fitting of a supercharger or turbocharger as a modification, or the upgrading of a supercharger, turbo or wastegate, or the re-chipping of electronic engine control units on turbo vehicles."

And... "Externally venting wastegates (screamer pipes) are not permitted as they are not adequately muffled and the exhaust gasses passing through the wastegate are not directed through the vehicle’s exhaust system. However, wastegates that have their own exhaust system or exhaust pipe exiting behind the passenger compartment are permitted."

Sorry yeah - should have said strap. Basically the whole thing needs to be 50x5

Interesting that people doing such upgrades never bother to even look up the rules. Not surprised in the slightest though. :P

Mainly because if it goes through warrants as it is, then why bother with a cert. Make things look factory enough then they'll go through fine.

We had a Hilux come through work with a 5L-T in it, very tidy job but still not something that usually exists. No cert. Called the car yard that it had been bought and they were happy enough to cert it even though it was from 6 months ago, but still.... if that went through anywhere again with no cert and there was a crash then the insurance company would probably do their best to get out of it.
