Wasn't an LSD a factory option on the ae101 Levin GT Apex and FXGT's?
It seems the AE111's go in the upto 2L class due to having over the power per litre rules of this series.
So if you were going down that route a 101 would seem logical. Plus I think weren't they 50kg lighter than the 111's?

Ending up with spare parts in assembling things since 1983

Lol, go read the MSNZ manual. It's about 200 pages. not all rules apply to all cars/classes but the basic safety section (vehicle and driver) is 60pages.
Reality: A nasty hallucination that is caused by excess blood in the alcohol stream.

Thats ok though, a good quality, clean panel filter, inside an opened up factory airbox would be fine.
The rules arent complex, they all stem from a really simple idea - keep the car as it left the factory.
The complexity stems from people asking "Can I do this? Can I do that?" To which the answer is almost always no.

Definitely are allowed pod filters, having asked the organiser in person a few weeks back, they just have to be in the factory location on the end of the factory intake pipe and aren't allowed to be enclosed. e.g warm air intakes only
In reality almost every car you would want to drive in this race that's available for $2k will have been molested with a pod at some stage.
2.0.1: The following parts are open AS LONG as they retain the same design and functionality (when compared to the standard unit):
Brake pads
Braided brake lines in place of rubber lines.
Suspension Springs. (this cannot be interpreted as valve springs or any other springs)
Engine Air filter (panel design).
Strut Braces, one per axle allowed, only if fitted from factory.
Engine Clutch (this cannot be interpreted as diff clutch packs)
Steering Wheel (this cannot be interpreted as the turning wheels on the exterior of the car)
Thats not what the rules say. I think i'll wait till after the first season an see if the rules become more consistent/settled. At this stage there are some interesting interpretations of things, and potentially a lot of cheating going on. Already know of at least one person who wants to add an LSD and new performance shocks which as I interpret the rules is a no-no. Seems like most motorsport, the more money you are willing to spend and the finer you run the line between cheating and technical compliance with the rules the better you will do.

If somebody wants to spend ridiculous money on some undercover bilsteins, an LSD etc etc then let them. The organisers will invoke the buyback clause and purchase a well sorted racecar for $2.5k
There are always going to be those that are pushing the boundaries of the rules. The reality is in this type of racing it's going to come down to driver consistency and reliability, not outright performance. Average laptimes across the race are going to be substantially lower than an all out time attack lap in the same car because lets face it, almost nothing production based can handle 30 laps of continuous 100%. If you have eaten through a full set of pads in 20 laps, you lose - it doesn't really matter how many people you've passed. If you're shifting at 7800rpm in your bigport 4age with no oil cooler for an hour, you're going to have a bad time.
The nature of the vehicles you're going to see out there ensures that they are going to have been messed with in the past. The intent of the series isn't to ensure that everybody has immaculate as delivered vehicles, it's to provide a fun and affordable entry point into motorsport. Nobody is going to kick out the guy that's in 12th place because he had a pod filter.
If guy in position 1 is inexplicably 10 seconds a lap quicker than all comparable vehicles, then rules may be invoked to equalise the playing field somewhat.
I'll be out there in an AE82 Corolla GT, all we're doing as far as prep is new brake lines, new pads, new fluid, replace clutch (as it's genuinely farked) and find a suitable set of 14's instead of the 15's it has on it. Honestly, it's 50/50 if it'll make it through first race given the unknown history of the engine, but I'm sure we'll have fun blowing it up.
If it doesn't explode we may replace shocks with ones that work, but certainly won't be anything other than OEM replacement - that's going against the intent of the rules and the spirit of competition. I will probably also put a cage in it, but certainly not for performance reasons - just so you other $$% don't kill me.

I very much doubt anything will be bought back, you'll just be told to $$% off.
We're just replacing the 225,000km old shocks, adding some lowered springs, a good set of road tyres, fixing the rooted inner CV, good pads, fluid and anything else that looks like it's about to fall to bits and kill us is being replaced.
Will probably add the luxury item of a flash steering wheel, as my knees barely fit beneath the factory one.

I've done a full service, plugs, filters, fluids, brakes and cam belt.
Going to use it as my daily to & from work, so might get a nice set of every day rims, with the factory wheels for track. There does seem to be alot of queries relating to trying to beat the system but it will be like TradeMe with all theones asking the stupid questions are not the one participating in the buying.
Participation is the whole point of this series, and with the longer races it is likely to be more about race stratogy and reliability than out & out speed
