5E-FHE induction pipework question

Postby markoneswift » Sun Jun 23, 2013 6:18 pm

Hi all, another one from me. My induction pipework is all messed up ( by someone who botched it ). The pipe connecting the plenum chamber to the air box is bad and it leaks - it's been damaged at some point and had repairs and bits of hoses attached. This could be the source of my high idle ( the idle screw has been screwed right down to compensate, I think ) so I need to know if this pipework is common across all the 5E engines etc. I'm assuming I can get this pipe from other Cynos / Paseo etc but I just need to know if it's unique to the Cynos B / 5E-FHE. Thanks :-)

Check out www.toyodiy.com and input your chassis number, find the part number for that pipe and do a part number cross reference check.

Hmm I've found the part - 17881 ( 17880-11080 ) but the cross reference doesn't find anything ? Any suggestions please ?

Here ya' go. Usually it works with just the 'General' box clicked but in this case it required the 'Japan' box to also be ticked:

It appears that the Corsa, Tercel and Corolla II (5E-FHE variants) all share the same intake hose as your Cynos, so that should broaden your options a bit.

EDIT: Beaten to it

Awesome thanks guys - do you have any recommendations as to where I could try and pick one of these up second hand ? I don't mind raiding scrappers yards for them but as I'm failrly new to NZ ( live in Hamilton ) I'm not too sure where to look / who to ask. Cheers

Your cheapest option would be Pick-A-Part. You're in luck as there's one in Hamilton. According to their stock list, a Tercel came in a couple of weeks ago, and another one a month before that. Not sure if they'll have the 5E-FHE engine, but for the sake of a $2 entry fee you can't really go wrong. An air filter hose will only set you back $4 from there, but bear in mind you need to take your own tools with you (and make sure you wear closed toed shoes or else they won't let you in).

Here's where they are: http://www.pickapart.co.nz/hamilton.asp

From memory you said you commute to auckland daily? there is another pick-a-part just off the motorway at takanini, so you could hit that one too if you left work early/went in late.

Excellent, thank you Grrrrrr and Kiwi-Corolla. I have indeed seen the pick-a-part at Takanini whilst stationary on SH1 there ( happens just about every day boo ) - it's just at the back of Metal Man I believe. I'll certainly check out the Hamilton branch too, I assume the pipe SHOULD be standard between the 5E-FE and FHE but for two bucks, its' worth a look.
Thanks again.

Nope, that part number is 5ehfe only. The difference might be something irrelevant, a spare hose port that can be blanked off or something tho.

This 95 Tercel on Trademe has exactly what I need :-

But obviously its a running car - the pipe is intact so if I can find a 1500cc Tercel in Pick-a-Part I should be laughing
