2jz whoop noise at idle

Postby steroidcontaskie » Wed Jul 03, 2013 10:58 am

Hi all

I went to look at a 2jz gita last night, give it a drive and I really do rate them as a car, quality feel, effortless power and still look modern.

The car had a slow deep whoop noise pulsing every second at idle, it wasnt really obvious and I couldn't hear it when the engine was revved, but it was clearly there. I couldn't figure what it might be, anyone got any thoughts?

Cheers Edward

I am not exactly sure what a "whoop" sounds like, but the 2jz does have a strange harmonic at idle, so that could possibly be what you are talking about.

Could possibly be the timing belt too tight. I over tensioned one on a Skypig years ago as a young fella, Just let a bit of tension off and it was fine. Could be worth a look

Perhaps it is one of the solenoids opening and closing? does it coincide with A/C turning on?

Cheers for the input guys,

the AC wasn't on, so it wouldn't have been that.

I didn't end up buying the car, it was an action and something just didn't quite seem right. He said the car had always made that noise and that it was normal, but I looked at 2 other 2j gitas and they didn't make it. It was being sold under his ex-girl friends trade me account and he said it had an LSD but when I asked about the tranz-axel code he wouldn't check it. I got the feeling it had an expensive repair coming that he didn't want to do.

Anyway, there are lots of Gitas for sale, but have to wait for the right one. Mind you, people do ask a lot for them and they sit on trade me for a while.

Cheers
Edward

If you're after a 2JZ Gita 4WD, let me know.

PM for details if you are keen.
