depends a bit on qualification / experience / location, but most dealerships in auckland seem to be offering low 20s p/h up to 30 for top guys.

hence this is why I am not mechanic, and this is why good mechanics are very rare. This is because of false economy, people go to mechanics that charge 60 p/h and spend three times as much for randomly changing parts to "diagnose" the problem, instead of going to mechanic that charges 120 p/h who does diagnose the problem properly in less time and only changes the part to repair the problem.

I went from cars to trucks then moved on to equipment/plant.
High 20s to low 30s is about right for trucks. I don't know of many truck techs earning more than that in NZ that aren't in supervisory/management positions.

Construction equipment pays higher again but is very specialized. Depending on skills/experience and what you work on this is the best chance of making 6 figures without leaving NZ/working on aircraft. Its not easy work but its worth it. Some of the jobs I do are charged at $200+p/h. Scope is massive too eg get good forestry equipment experience and you could work somewhere like Canada where forestry is big and cash in on a worldwide shortage of heavy duty diesel fitters.

Yes I am.

Most of our qualified guys are on around 25 an hour, with the top guys around 27. We are sitting at the low end of the scale from what we hear from our mates else where. Penal rates, 1x 1/3 after 42.5 hours.

One of the workshops here is paying there better guys 30 an hour + a few cents. They are on flat rate.

Our pay review this year is going to be interesting. lol

Most dealerships around here are getting close. We're 90+GST an hour, and thats on the cheaper side for Palmy dealerships AFAIK
