Couple questions on the AE101 shape FXGT

Hey all, am considering buying a silvertop FXGT as a nicer daily.

Had a couple questions, what sort of fuel economy can I expect from a stock silvertop and are there any things worth modding on them that can really improve fuel econ or performance that is not hugely costly (sub $1000)

Also do they all have an open diff and if so does the 101 GTZ box bolt right in or is there aftermarket LSD options for the factory FXGT box?

You would lose performance and economy with the GTZ box due to much heavier/stronger box construction. Might need different shafts as well. C56 would probably be a better option even if it doesn't have LSD and if from a AE111 Ithinkthey have a Torsen diff standard not that you would necessarily need an LSD for a daily.

C56 from a superstrut AE111 would be the better gearbox choice (LSD + good ratios)

Is that the 5 speed from BZG's etc? thought they were open diff?

Are they a direct swap?

Blacktop headers and mod the pipe where it goes over the crossmember.

Thats the one. Superstruts got LSD's. Pretty sure it'd be a straight swap.

On long trips I can get 14k/l from my Levin, and around town will do ~11-12. So if you find one that isn't rooted, they'll probably be very economical.
Get a set of secondhand headers and mid pipe and you'll gain good power everywhere.

Used to get just over 400k out of a tank of gas around town, from petrol light to full back to petrol light. Not totally accurate way of measuring, but a good approximation. would go down to 350 if I was putting my foot down all the time.
Was about 450-500k out of a tank on the open road.
Both were always running aircon too, not that that makes too much of a difference to economy on them.

Always on 98.

Really really miss mine.

I had nolathane rear sway bar bushes in mine, made the nose very pointy and good. I think it helped the balance too.

how big was the tank?

They have a 50L tank. With my Blacktop I get about 120km on $20 of 98 octane (when the price is $2.30 a litre), which equates to 13km per litre. According to others online that's about the average fuel consumption for both the ST and BT. Although in saying that, mine has open trumpets and a couple of other engine mods, so a fully stock 20v in good condition should be even better again.

Nup it's all stock, done 320k and burns about a litre of oil per 1000k :lol: o2 sensor will be well fuxx0red so one with less k's/less oil consumption would do better on short trips.
The last long trip I ran it on Mobil 98 mostly, with one top up of BP 98. Usually I just run it on BP 95, as there is no 98 in this hick town.

Hard to find a good, low kms one these days.. I've been looking for another tidy one for some time now. Bog standard, mine used around 400km a tank depending on driving style. Go for the superstrut model over the non-superstrut, with bigger brakes, momo wheel etc, just be prepared for usual superstrut wear. Cheap performance.. replace the squashed section over the front subframe, intake and rest of exhaust.. decent service, replace the 02 sensor and that's probably your $1000 budget gone.

Although if you're after economy, I wouldn't suggest a 20-year old car with probably quarter of a million km on it like most of them have!

Last thing I'd want to do around here is daily drive anything that has the remotest whiff of sportiness in the suspension.
