Sorry, DRFTIN, but that is complete nonsense.

Every part of an F1 car, whether its an engine, gearbox, brakes, or tyres in this instance, is rated to a spec, to try and ensure maximum performance whilst still offering reliability. You cant have your cake and eat it too.

The tyres are supplied to the teams with certain set up recommendation parameters by Pirelli, as they know exactly how much energy/heat/distortion their tyres can/cant cope with.

For teams to go beyond that recommendation in the search for extra performance is not only dangerous to their own drivers safety, but also for all the other drivers out on track.

After what transpired at Spa 2011 when RBR went against Pirellis negative camber max limit on their front wheels, the so called set up recommendations were no longer just recommendations, but limits the teams must not exceed, on safety grounds.

Its nothing to do with strangling performance, and everything to do with safety.

Clearly you have no idea about the sort of stress that tyres come under at that sort of pace and the sheer energies involved in making one stay in one piece.

Pressure and camber alone need to be very specific if the tyre is designed that way. They're a fairly high tech component of the car.

Caught the last 10 laps of the gp2 sprint race. Was good to see Mitch recover at the end there, after the first race first corner issue.

F1. Hamilton and Seb, Thats going to be good to see them fight it out over the first few laps. Hopefully the tyre changes don't give Seb a big advantage for the race.

i think pirelli proved my point with the new restrictions on pressure and camber
a suggestion that you dont use more than a certain amount of camber because the tyre might fail is a lot like a rev limit yes, but engines are designed with a rev limit they have to comply with, they are unable to exceed that limit so its not a problem
the tyres seem to perform their best at settings which prove to make them unreliable.
where do you draw the line with camber and pressure? is going 0.00001 psi lower going to make it explode, they are going to push the limits to find out which becomes unsafe
yeah im rambling, this probably didnt make sense and you'll probably still think im an idiot but oh well :P

as for the race last night... the tyres did make it interesting with mercedes not being able to make them last anything like lotus etc did. pity grosjean didnt have another lap to make it interesting

I actually think track temp caused the tyres to wear more than anything else.

44 odd degrees C thats some serious track temp right there.

I agree with Driftin. cept the 100kw limit :p

That was a good race imo. Decent fights through out. And drivers were pushing hard almost the whole race(cept merc). Hardly herd a peep from Alonso and he finishes 4th.

From my understanding, the engines cannot be tampered with from factory (except auxiliary fitting and such) and the ecu is supplied by Mclaren. Thats why in the pits for eg RBR have a team of Renault engineers in there garage.

On another note Mercedes look to have taken a step back from their progress at Silverstone, Hamilton was blaming the revised tyre construction Pirelli supplied for this race!

As another GP looms this weekend in Hungary, I thought I would post this here.

Honda have made a tribute To Ayrton Senna, using the telemetry from his lap at Suzuka in 1989 in the McLaren.

While it doesnt show the whole lap, it certainly gave me huge goosebumps, so crank up the sound on your computer, and enjoy.

Shout out to SkyTV, for once, for putting Lingerie Football League on inbetween FP3 and Qualifying.

Also have to agree with Pirelli on the teams crocodile tears after abusing the tyres. Use them as instructed or don't bitch.
I just discovered why when I got a new front tyre put on the bike the handling was incredible but after a week front grip disappeared. Bike shop had put it on wrong way round. And it is a Pirelli too.

Rumours of Ferrari offering Kimi $15M plus points bonuses and sponsorship for his Motorcross team are starting to emerge in the press...

So Lotus, RBR, and Old Red are trying to sign him up now...and after Nandos telling off after the weekend, it makes alot of sense too.

The silly season just got sillier

Reith I see Ferrari just signed Lotus's chief engineer James Ellison apparently he was with them when Schu was killing it.

Is Brawn basically just pulling in all his people from back in the day when he was winning at Ferrari??

Ferrari to me have gone backwards in the last month they can't qualify to save there lives and there race pace was way off in Hungary if I was Alonso I'd be worried as I can see there championship challange dissapating in front of there eyes.

Yes, even though it only got confirmed this week, James was always going back to Ferrari, but I think Lotus had him on temporary gardening leave, until someone wrote a big enough cheque to get him on board sooner rather than later.

Ross has taken ALOT of flack over the past few years, but yes, he is simply building the team from the ground up, as when Honda sold it to Brawn, he had to lay off half of the work force, about 250 people if I remember rightly, so its been a HUGE transitional process to go through to get all the ducks in a row.

Ross isnt going to be there much longer, and he knew that when he took over running it as Merc in 2010, so he is simply laying the foundation for what will one day, be a great team. Nothing worse than having a knowledge vacuum in any sports team, let alone a top tier F1 team.

Regarding Ferrari and their lack of performance, it all goes back to the same thing thats been happening for the past few years...the parts they are making in the factory, and testing in the simulator/wind tunnels, isnt correlating to on track performance. They have actually been removing parts off the car over the past month to 6 weeks, that were supposed to bring big gains, but actually slowed down the car and made it imbalanced.

Alonso has shot himself in the foot though, as he is always so quick to point the blame at the team and its under performing car, which while factually accurate, isnt good at galvanising the squad around him. He is slowly but surely losing the respect of people inside the team, and once that happens, its a slippery slope.

He should take a leaf out of Michaels book and STFU, put his head down, and keep on keeping on.

Thats why he was so respected by his teams as he NEVER said a bad word about them ever, not even in his last 3 years while driving the grey bus did he utter one word of frustration, as thats not how you rally the team around you.

I think frustration is setting in for Alonso as he know's his window to win again is closing.

For me though Ferrari as a team have'nt had a car to win it since Raikkonen did it in 07.08 Massa got close but the last 2-3 years they have been rolling up dogs and have just been beaten by better teams.

Me personally I'd be going through the team with a fine tooth comb and weeding out the weak links.This wind tunnel thing is a debarcle of the highest at that level but I have heard no one from Ferrari admit fault.

Aero is huge in F-1 you get that wrong and your toast and it pretty much describes what has gone on at Ferrari for awhile.

To me this stinks from the top and as they say $hit floats down hill.

Lol Aero is pretty much everything in f1, everyone is running the same engines (Redbull/Lotus, Ferrari/Sauber, Mercedes/Mclaren for example) the main diff is the chassis/aero/suspension
