O2 sensor 20v BT & ST are they the same

Postby magweal » Mon Sep 02, 2013 10:06 am

Goody morning peoples.

I've tried a few ST 02 sensors in my BT but they don't seam to be working (I have borrowed a BT 1 and it works).
I've looked every where to see if the BT and ST sensors are the same and unless I just can't find it, the info's not out there.
Can any of the Guru's let me know.

Many thanks

The Silvertop oxygen sensor is a Zirconia type whereas the Blacktop oxygen sensor is a Titania type. Both of them operate similarly but the way they heat up and send the information to the ECU is different.

Silvertop wiring colours are:

Pink black = Heater control - connected to ECU
Black red = +12V supply (IGN)
Black/thick grey = Sensor signal output to ECU
Red black= 1V voltage supply from ECU

Blacktop wiring colours are:

Pink black = Heater control - connected to ECU
Black or Black red = +12V supply (IGN)
White/thick grey = Sensor signal output to ECU
Brown = Sensor ground

So they are wired different then.
On the hunt for a BTone as it looks like the ST one can't be rewired for BT

If you can afford to, buy one brand new. Secondhand ones are usually shagged these days. Through Mark here on ToySpeed a new one is $218.50 delivered, which is a good price considering the retail price on them is a whopping $674 8O. Part number is 89465-19685

They almost look to go to put in when they're brand new, but compared to a secondhand one you can see how much abuse they handle over the years

That is something new. Titania type was very rare for the '90 cars.
Are you sure about this? The titania does not generate voltage. So if applying butane torch on the titania type and measuring voltage you would not get any signal out, while the resistance will change.

As far as I am aware black top had standard 1V type output on the diagnostic connector (I could be wrong here it was many years ago I worked on one).

I have a Walker universal fit one (that needs connecting onto your existing plastic connector).

I'd heard good things about these sensors from guys using them on ClubAE111.com so I bought a couple to save on shipping from the US. Haven't yet fitted mine.

Owes me $80

Give me a PM if interested.

So where does the blue wire in your pic come into it?
See ya

Wiring colours are from this page: http://me2kimi.blogspot.co.nz/2013/04/4 ... tween.html

Probably a typo, brown is likely meant to be blue. One thing for sure is that the ST and BT sensors aren't directly cross-compatible. Easier to just get the correct sensor to begin with so that everything works the way Toyota intended.

Could be keen on one of these I can't justify $200 on one and BOW (Bank of Wife) would decline the transaction.

Yeah, just flick me a PM with contact details to get in touch with you. I'll send through an email with pictures etc, not that it looks very different from the ones pictured by Kiwi_Corolla above.

We'll go from there.
