How much for a mint mr2 turbo?

Postby ben » Wed Sep 18, 2013 5:26 pm

So I owned a sw20 GT about 10 years ago, and it was a super nice car, and I wouldn't mind getting a new one, except all the ones I see come up on Trademe look like shit.

How much would a mint (almost concours) unmolested mr2 turbo with reasonable kms cost? And where would you find one apart from looking on Trademe? Would you get a good one for under 10k?

Ideal world would be a red targa with leather, mint paint, i'd be happy with some mods for more performance (exhaust, turbo, boost tap), but a totally stock interior, with the leather well cared for and any worn items replaced.
White tshirt, black gt4. In the 04.

Probably have more luck bringing one in from Japan than finding a mint unmolested GT here. You can bring them in under SIV, or under teh 20yo+ rule if you dont mind getting an early one. Its worth whatever you can talk the seller down to, but looking at trademe prices some are asking moonbeams for polished turds.

+1 getting one from overseas.

I am a bit of an avid trade me watcher and with that kind of specific requirements you would be waiting a long time before something like that comes up.

I am guessing you would want a gen 3 or 4? if so then you are probably looking at a SIV and you might have to apply early in the year.

Import a mint 1993 gen 3 from Japan, probably cost 10-15k. Would be much more to choose from vs what is in NZ

Engine bay needs a clean up but otherwise that one looks pretty good. Would be worth a look, and should be able to talk him down a bit.

I would say that is about as tidy as you are going to get in NZ these days

There is no $&#$% way a mr2 would cost anywhere near 10k from japan. Would be surprised if it was more than 6 landed. Çan get gtrs and jza80 turbos into nz cheaper than 10

Most folk who have contemplated getting an MR2 out of Japan have struggled.

There was a big thread over at the MR2 club forums about it at one stage.

yeah... you were saying?

Mr2's have kept a very strong value due to their high demand in the UK and canada

if i were to have about 6k, I could get a better deal overseas? how long is the waiting period generally?

Going off topic, so maybe ask in spam thread. But keep in mind it costs a few grand to get it here and on the road (if possible).

Ha, nice one lunchie.......

Remember that's TM spec not auction places.

Gtst are worth effectively nothing. Good mate of mine has just imported a Autech 4 door R32 gtr with Super rare N/A RB26 landed in nz for 6k.

A few other ppl I know of who import a lot often get gtsts "thrown in" with the gtrs the buy.

I want a clean GTST coupe. Would be a cool car to own. Wonder how much a nice one would cost to import

About 3k for shipping, can't remembet if that includes compliance etc.

The autech gtr thing already has offers of 15k. I can point you in his direction if your serious.
