Battery relocation questions

Postby Mr Ree » Wed Sep 25, 2013 11:28 am

Hi there TS'ers :)

Im currently installing a FFIM in my car, and have to relocate the fusebox/battery due to the throttle body and piping needing to reside in their old home.

I was wondering how many of you have put your battery in the boot, and what cable you bought/where you bought it from? Also, what terminals did you use etc?

I have seen no end of "kits" on Trade Me, but I would rather ask around first incase there is a better place to buy my cable from.

Im going to be going to a smaller sealed gel type battery, so wont need to have the box with external vent set up which is a positive.

Any info appreciated.

Thanks :)

Thanks for your reply.

I have to go to Jaycar later this week for some conduit so was planning on checking out their prices while I was there. They are normally pretty well priced for most cables too.

What gel type battery did you buy? I figure I will be buying a jumper pack to carry with me when I drive it as I dont want to be stranded lol

Umm not sure, my mates work got it in for someone who never picked it up so he gave it to me. It's a bit big though, one day I will splash out and buy a smaller one.

I used 0 guage wire I got from Rapid Radio in auckland and put a 150 amp breaker where the old battery was in the engine (easy to turn off the power when working on the car), and a 250 amp fuse in the boot of the car.

I earthed the battery to the chassie rail under the boot (drilled a whole through the spare wheel well. So far 1 year and no issue, half of that was driving around, the other half was having the car sitting.

I can take some pictures on the weekend if you are interested.

Cheers
Edward

I ran 0 gauge in the crx (overkill I know) and used a circuit breaker. I had a regular battery but have now gone to a drycell battery.

I also used these for the terminals: http://jaycar.co.nz/productView.asp?ID= ... rm=KEYWORD

They aren't the cheapest but they are reusable and super easy to use. No crimp required.

0 Gauge is the best to use as you don't get high voltage drop when cranking
Why dream it when you can live it

Those look like a great idea, crimping 0 gauge wasn't easy to do well, I ended up soldering them too, and that was also a pain to do.

Hey,

Where are the best places to get high current fuses and circuit breakers (12V 150-250Amp+)?

Where do people buy them from (and how cheap)?

Thanks, Allister
