4k over heating

Postby slighty_looney » Mon Nov 25, 2013 7:17 pm

Hey guys

My father owns a kp61 its got a original 4k done 150000km all factory I recently replaced the thermostat because on the open road it would start getting hot. It didn't fix it

So it only really gets hot on the open road (90km plus)
The fan is working
Thermostat is new
The radiator looks abit poked but not sure if its the issue

Any ideas guys

Cheers[/i]

Radiator would be my first suspect. Not all that promising if you think it's poked... It might just be clogged up with rust.

When its upto temp, feel top and bottom radiator hoses they should both be hot. If the bottom one is noticably colder it has a flow problem.

If you have fitted a new thermostat the radiator wll need removing and rodding. It can also be a waterpump impeller but generaly it will boil over straight away if that is the case.

Im presuming the system is holding pressure with no leaks?

This ain't no M series, K series will run for years with a BHG. Barely worth fixing.
TK test will rule it in or out though.

Feeling hoses is a quick check, it maybe still partially blocked an not giving adequate flow.

Check the impellor in the water pump, had 4K many years ago with that problem.A new water pump and problem sorted. But have the radiator checked ,may need rodding out or recoring.

LOOK at the tops of the tubes! Mucked up, mineralized, clogged with bits of smegma, or look free & open & clean & clear? 6 or 7 should be visible, any more then 2-3 clogged means they need cleaning out. Compressed air & garden hose work fine for loose stuff.

Bottom hose should be significantly cooler then the upper.
Rev the engine after the thermostat opens and coolant will really puke out the filler when the tubes are clogged.

Hey guys

Just a update it was the radiator that was poked. Ended up buying a alloy civic radiator. Remounting the factory fan and modified the radiator to suit the outlets on engine. Worked a treat. This how it looks now
