upcoming trackday. brakes or swaybars

Ok guys it been on here for a while.
Iv got my first track at taupo in a few weeks time and wondering what you guys would upgrade swaybars or brakes
Cusco adjustable swaybars
Or
Upgarde to the bigger 4 pot turbo brakes.
Car is a manual jza80 supra a turbo conversion. Has hsd coilovers with track spec spring rates 16or 18 front amd 14 rear. And had a trd lsd.

I'll start this off by saying i've never raced on a track... BUT:

Brakes all the way, sway bars provide an improvement to handling, but without the sway bars your car will still behave in a predictable way, a way you can control.

Brakes... if your brakes get tired and you can't trust them you are in a bad place, they would be high on my list of improvements.

Without a shadow of a doubt, BRAKES!!

Swaybars are nice to have if you dont have good spring rates, but they wont save your life...brakes on the other hand will. The 2/1 set up is fine on the street, but the track soon finds their limits.

Make sure to get some suitable pad compound too, as even though taupo isnt as hard on brakes as other north island tracks, it still gives them a solid working out, so factory pads arent what you want if you plan to push hard on the day. (Read: not green stuff lol)

Yeh just been speaking to nick from nst and he can do 4pots for front with znoelli sp500 pads

Have also seen a write up on installing some ducting to which ill try find again.

Ducting wont be necessary for doing 4-5 lap stints, but Im certainly not saying 'dont bother', as any cooling is good for our whales :)

Have you spoken to anybody who has used those pads personally? I tend to steer away from pads unless I know somebody who has first hand experience with them on track.

Alot of pads that claim to deal with xxx heat, turn to weetbix long before, so just be cautious of where you spend your money.

Brakes and the Toyota Supra 4-pots are near the top of the food chain when it comes to a brake setup from the factory.

Forget brake ducting unless you intend to use a full race slick you won't need them.

Definitely brakes, swaybars wont do anything if you cant slow down enough for a corner.
You probably wont need to upgrade the swaybars much anyway as the general rule for swaybars is "stiff springs with soft swaybars" or "soft springs with stiff swaybars" and looking at your rates i think you qualify as having stiff springs.

Buy a brake pad compound that works when hot, like a proper race compound. I wouldn't think that the actual brakes need replacing though.

And flush/change all of the brake fluid - very important!

The Supra soon finds the limits of the 2/1 set up on the track, even if running a good compound.

They just dont have the stopping power of their bigger brothers, and its one of the best mods you could do to a Supra so its money well spent, regardless of how ofter you visit the track :)

The only thing that 2/1 brake setup is good for is as a door stop they have no business being on the car they may be good for a couple of high speed stops but after that they are sketchy and down right scarey at that.Throw them away you'll see the difference in stopping power & durability when you throw those bigger brakes on.

With regards to a brake pad get something that is usable on the street also don't get caught up in all this race compound type stuff.I'm assuming your Supra is predominantly a road car so there are plenty of options pad wise that can handle track/street use.

I'd have a look at either TRD Reds or Hawk HP Plus's they are to very reliable pads and will handle both track and street use from cold.

TRD reds are rated to 650 deg C I'm not sure what the HP + Hawks are but I and a couple of others have used them and they are good to go.

Brake fluid Motul RBF 600 or 660 will do the job.

All depends on how you drive it. Admittedly the Mrs supra is a Na auto but ive never had a problem with the 2pot brakes, biggest thing is a good working system, good flush with quality fluid, good quality pads and the sliders, strip and clean up the sliders then at least the pads are actually grabbing both sides properly

IF i was in your shoes with your first track day id save your $, do some maintenance on the current brakes and get out and do some track time, You wont be pushing them to there limits for awhile yet once youve got some seat time

No I would'nt do this at all I went through the exact same thing with the 2/1 setup 12 years ago with pads flushed brake system it makes no difference after 3-4 laps they $hit themselves brake fade first followed closely by warped rotors at the end of it.Bottom line these brakes are absolutely horrible for track day use you'll get 2 good laps then there goneski's.

Once you've driven with the bigger brake setup you'll see what I'm talking about the car will repeatedly pull up a 1500+kg car time after time without any issues the other setup just won't do it.
