They won't because it's not competing against the GTR

Wouldn't it be competing against the Fairlady Z as in the past? However it would get compared to the GTR regardless

The original Supra's direct competitor was the 300 ZX which it surpassed.

All this competing with the GTR crap was internet based.

Why would you ever think a performance car with half the grip has a shot against an AWD car for starters when it comes to out and out performance.

... and I *really* hope that it's not of the same vein as the 350Z. Not a bad car, but the old 300ZX was a lot more impressive in it's time.

Will people that are in the market to buy a "sports car" look at both the supra and the GTR? If yes, then they are competing for buyer $$$ and that is what counts.

That's valid but I'm pretty sure the Supra's direct competitors were the M3 300Z and the 911 of the time.

I remember even back in the day when the Supra came out with the 6 spd the next lot of M3's BMW made sure that had a 6 spd aswell.

I very much doubt it will be a competitor performance wise with that GTR and especially price point wise as I find it hard to believe it will even be a turbo.

A ~300hp V6 in a *good* ~14-1500kg RWD chassis could give the 350/370Z a nudge. Or build an ISF on the RWD coupe platform.

Leave the pissing match to Nissan and Porsche

According to GT6 , this will drive like a standard mkiv Supra... as in slow, heavy and genarally meh.
But at least it looks nice in dark gray with red wingmirrors

The specs have just been created for GT6. Nothing set yet. I wonder if they just grabbed the MKIV physics and dumped them on the new car model. I haven't got around to testing it yet. Stupid internet wouldn't let me log on to win the car.

This, or similar to this anyway. I'm thinking RWD coupe with near 300kw is a reasonable expectation :D

iOnic wrote:They are technically two different classes of car but good luck building a new Japanese RWD performance car and not having it pitted against the GTR by the media/everyone. Even the LFA failed to escape that fate in spite of being a totally different idea to the GTR. Whether Toyota like it if not, the GTR is the primary competition of any new Supra they may or may not make.

And if they make it better than the GTR and price it accordingly.....

For sure that's the media and fan boys will compare them.
But its not really apples with apples.

Must be a supra if it has an ugly rear end...
Looks like the designer was channelling the Jza80 rear!
I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

I doubt very very much they will be competing for many of the same buyers.

Impossible to say at this stage since we don't know anything about the car other than its ugly. May not even be a Supra.

They just chuck in a minor mention of the Supra for us fan boys, but in reality it's subtly designed around the R35 and will be in the next price bracket up from even the GT-R going off that design - if the basic designed GT86 was what, starting at $52-56k drive-away, then this is going to be at least the higher end of the $100k price bracket. You can't beat the R35 looks-wise, but this is a new interesting concept and love how they have used the Dodge Viper's rear end in the design! wing mirrors are terrible, but hopefully the front grows on me. Good to know they are back out there competing with other sport car manufacturers and here's hoping enough sell to make this a viable market for them again!

I love that side profile 5.00 min into that video.
The rear is growing on me. Still undecided on the front.

Yeah, glad to see they're still developing it a but further rather than just calling it quits.

Supra shell on IS-F goodness would be great.

It's a concept, it's not going to look like that when/if it's done as a production. Concepts very very rarely do. And that concept has been beaten with the ugly stick. Too much Enzo look trying to be put in there. And big rear diffusers on road cars just scream wanker I reckon. FT-HS was a better looking concept. In saying that, the IS range looks better than the lot of them.

I'm glad they are time for them to stop BSing around in the SP8 class and go after the Manthey's of the world and try and beat the best.

They are entering 2 LFA's and a 86 as per usual the normal 4.8 litre car and the new 5.3 litre car.The original car will stay in SP8 who know's what class the newer more developed model will be in I'm hoping for the GTE class as they did mention with the new car it has a longer wheel base and a full carbon chassis which incorporates alot of weight loss so instead of the SP8 weight restriction of 1450 kg which they have been running if they can drop that by alot who know's what the newer speced model will weigh as HP will still be the same 490 odd or 500 ps which alot of the classes pretty much run to.

No real point chasing the top class until they have a road car to sell I reckon
