LSD upgrades

So my mk3 supra LSD diff has seen better days and I need to look at other options.

Has anyone used after market lsd, ie cusco 1.5/2 lsd, or Kaaz or similar, are they significantly better than the toyota G series diffs once they are rebuilt shimmed properly. It will be going into a medium powered daily.

I want to know how the hell you managed that?

That sort of thing normally requires a large amount of clutch dumping on sticky tyres....

To be honest its was probably like that when I bought the car some 5000km ago. It didnt wine, didnt rattle. There was the occasional click when I went from neutral to first. a few other random noises from the back that I had assumed was the cracked subframe which was the reason behind pulling the diff in the first place.

Tony from Steelie gears who has the diff at the moment said it is a flaw in the first gen g series diffs, he has a bunch of hilux housings that are the same issue and that in the later ones the ring gear end is thicker which prevents this from happening.

My car has had a hard life from the previous owners so axle tramp has a lot to do with this.

any aftermarket diff will be far better than a stock G code lsd. run trd G codes in both my cars, work awesome, drive nice and lock up good. i hear cusco's have fairly high preload. so since its a street car, may want to check the break away before installing if going that way,

Just stick a CIGWELD or BOC locker in it & then break axles.

I'd be checking the breakaway on any LSD before I stuck it on there, but as above the TRD stuff is pretty good for most purposes. Cusco,Kaaz,Quiafe,Trust etc are all good as well, it really just depends on what you can find that ain't stupid money

Also depends on what your planning on doing with the car?

Ive got the standard G series diff in mine still. I rebuilt it with new bearings and the likes. Cleaned up all the clutch packs and shimmed it with a big washer that was about 3mm thick
I did use castrol lsd oil from supercheap and was always unhappy with the diff, it would clunk and bang and single spin unpredictably

but i changed it to TRD lsd oil and its totally transformed it, its totally quiet and locks up every time, even with sticky semi slicks on, Drifts great at the track, and quiet on the street

I ended up buying a spare diff from Audiman. Figured if it was good enough for a 9second street car... its good enough for me... It is a rebuilt g series diff same ratios but all new bearings. Has Nulon 85W-140 oil which is what he said was the best oil he had used and that the diff was very streetable despite taking 1000hp.
