AE92 FXGT no brake pressure

Postby jimjam » Fri Feb 07, 2014 12:03 am

Hi guys,

I've changed the brakes lines on my FXGT. Should have been a simple task in my mind.

When I went to bleed to brakes I was getting just air and little to no fluid after trying for a long time.

My mate in the car felt no difference in the in brake pedal and the pedal would still travel to the floor.

I simply removed the old brakes lines and installed the new lines (both front).

Everything is nice and tight.

The fluid wasn't dropping in the cylinder and I couldn't see any leaks.

This makes me think the problem could be at the cylinder?

I removed the banjo bolt at the caliper and got my mate to pump the pedal and pathetic amount of fluid was dripping out.

This is my first time changing brake lines. Is there a common mistake people make when doing this?

Could it be the cylinder? Could it be the brake pedals travel not engaging the cylinder properly?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Remove the brake pipes at the master cylinder and bleed it there first. Get a mate to pump the pedal while holding your fingers over both ports ie, fingers off when pushing pedal down and blocking ports when the pedal is let up again so air cant be sucked back in again. This should draw fluid into the cylinder from resevoir and you should get solid pressure out both ports. If you dont see solid fluid out of ports check pushrod clearance.

When you bleed at nipples get him to pump half a dozen times then crack it. Keep doing this until pressure comes through. Work from furtherest to closest.

playing with your brakes if you aren't experienced or competent (or supervised by someone who is) is asking for trouble if you ask me

Agree 100% with the above comment.

I'd get someone to give you a hand that knows how to work on brakes. Last thing you need is to end up with air in the lines and not being able to stop. They are certainly not something to try for the first time without doing your homework or getting a hand with.

Problem solved. Brake booster reservoir was empty. Looked like it was full though because the fluid had stained the walls. Silly mistake.
