st191 3sfe caldina engine check light / diagnostic plug

Postby AE85.6 » Mon Feb 24, 2014 5:55 pm

Hi just wandering if anyone can point out a diagnostic plug and if so what pins to bridge to try and check engine code via flashing of check light on dash ?

Tried searching and also google but apart from listing codes or people asking where the plug is etc didn't find so much.

Had the light pop up yesterday which was new but did not appear to be driving any different than norm.
Was not over heating, smelling rich, still running on 4 cylinders, dash otherwise normal etc.

Just curious more than anything and also not to further damage anything.

I remember doing years ago on my corolla so hoping can be done on this also.

Cheers,
Mike.

Heh I assume the square diagnostic plug capped plug could be a start... not the little round one like I was looking for hanging down the side on corolla.

Which I think is E1 and TE1 to bridge ?

code 21 shows as oxygen sensor according to this list:

http://www.st162.net/forum/showthread.p ... gine-Codes

I assume this is one in the manifold or would it mean possibly the one in cat also or would that be called something else for code ?

Or would that possibly be the sub oxy sensor ?

Cheers

There is actually an FAQ with codes listed ;)
viewtopic.php?f=34&t=35814

Cat temp sensors don't tend to throw codes on vehicles that old. All the probe is is a temp switch for the dash light and nothing more. Oxygen sensor code can be various things (misfires etc causing extra fueling and making the oxygen sensor read wrong for too long for example), but more often than not are the sensor getting old and ineffective, or a break in the heater circuit inside. Easiest bet is to try another sensor from the wreckers or start poking and checking voltages.

Cheers for that, by the era of the car I thought the cat one was similar to the old rolla being needle probe type which I was hoping if issue would trip an exhaust light over engine check leading to just oxy sensor in manifold. Might be a good idea to snatch one from a wrecker to check which I wouldn't think would cost much.
