So quali was fun (and wet) and was a good result for the Mercedes!

Our entire stand cheered when Vettel got knocked out of Q2 :)

Saw that and I bet they were going APE when it looked like Riccardo just about stole pole in the last quali also.

Very exciting quali session, and Ricciardo did an exceptional job out there. A huge shame he couldnt take a fairy tale pole on home soil in his maiden race, that would have sent the crowd nuts.

Tomorrow is going to be a very exciting race, and I cant wait.

Another victory for SVG today too, thats 3 from 3 so far this weekend. If he takes 4 from 4, then it will bode very well for the year. Go the Giz :)

Watching from the hill at turn 10 yesterday was sweet, roostertails and twitching, fishtailing cars and so many cars having near misses with the wall.

The crowd went nuts when Ricciardo grabbed pole seconds before the end of q3, only to have it snatched from him a few seconds later. Rather hoping Ricciardo takes the win, the party will be insane if he does.

People that are bitching about the different sound the engines make need to get the f#$ k over themselves IMO, they still sound awesome, and it makes it a much more pleasant experience to be able to talk to your friends while the race is on rather than having to text or use sign language.

Well that wasn't entirely unexpected.

Tough luck for Ricciardo but I'm not going to complain about both McLarens on the podium

Have to say I actually fell asleep for about 20 laps of this race.

I found it quiet follow the leaderish and boring if I'm honest.

The first race was always going to be a walk into the unknown, and as such, and most of the teams would have been erring on the side of caution, just to ease into the season gently, and to try and ensure some reliability. (RBR excluded)

I would expect things to improve somewhat over the next few races, but more so as soon as they return to Europe, and can get some new bits on the car, and make the required software changes to optimize their PU's

Good to see that tyres will still play a part in 2014, albeit not as much as the past 3 seasons.

I feel really sorry for Daniel, but rules are rules, and if they were broken, which it seems they have, then there is nothing to complain about, apart from the fairy tale first race for him being taken off the record :(

Roll on Malaysia in 2 weeks, and lets see how the new cars work in properly wet condidtions ;)

He's been in F1 since July 2011 so it hardly qualifies as his first race, fairy tale or otherwise.

Qually was pretty good. I was on the front straight watching them out of the last turn, also had aussies commenting on Vettels bad luck/failure. During the race I started at turn 11/12 and slowly moved to the front straight to catch the podium at the end.

I don't think I'll go GA on race day again at a busy circuit like Albert park. There are people taking camping chairs and guarding their spot for 7 hours until the race starts if they want a decent spot...not for me.

Now to watch the Sky coverage from the weekend!...after top gear

Imo the new sound is pretty cool, but you just don't get goosebumps like when you hear the V8 from miles away slowly getting louder and louder.

That is a given, I obviously meant his first race with RBR.

Its always great for a sport when the home boy does good, F1 is no exception. :)

Ditto, GA was fine saturday, but race day it just sucked. Do it right or dont bother IMO.

Re the sound, on TV you can hardly hear them. I suspect the TV guys still have things set up to suit the V10s and had things dialled down somewhat.
Hopefully that will change and you will hear them better. To me they sounded like an AMG V12 accelerating away about one block down the street.

I still think they will do something about it, and the complaints from Ron Walker, are further proof that the promoters want what they pay for.

I have no problem with the noise/sound they produce, but like Martin Brundle, its the volume that is missing.

I see modified tail pipes in the near future, and to a greater extent, adjustment of the fuel flow limitation rules, and the rpm limit, in order to allow the cars to actually utilise all of their rpm range without dropping off the torque curve.

It was obvious to anyone with an understanding of fuel flow, ages ago, that these cars were never going to be revved to 15k, so Im surprised that people are surprised about it now the season has started.

2013 v 2014 sound comparison.
Turbo engines can sound good, but these are just terrible.

Exactly ^

The assault on your senses is what makes F1, F1.

Standing track side when the last generation of donk screamed past, made the hairs stand up on the back of your neck, and thats half the attraction...a sound you will never experience anywhere else.

Now, a Honda Civic with fart can is louder :(

The racing was great.
The sound to me not so great. But on TV doesnt really matter to me much.

if you are actually there you want to experience the sound and thrill that you cant find anywhere else as thats F1. But seems like that element is gone. I think my car sounds better haha.
