Heavy power steering

Postby TRD_ZERO » Mon Mar 24, 2014 6:01 pm

So finally got my car tuned and took it away for the weekend. I've removed a few things from when i rebuilt it like the air-con and a solenoid/sensor that had the two vacuum lines from the steering rack go into it. I got told i wouldn't need it anymore. I was under the impression that that sensor/solenoid just increased the revs accordingly to accommodate when using the power steering at low revs. removing the air-con also removes the tensioner for the p/s belt. The belt squeels a tiny bit on start up but stops after a few seconds, ive used a smaller belt for the p/s . The car just seems heavy at the wheel like when i drive my wifes car its smooth and light but mine not so much. Anything that i could try might be helpful thanks.

Its an ae111

change power steering fluid. Also could be some air in the system just give it a really good run and keep fluid topped up.

try turning the wheel and start the car while turning and see if it changes.

Maybe the belt is not driving the pump enough.

They are usually self bleeding and noisy if too low.

The two vac lines should not affect it.

When trying to turn the wheel while idling its tough i kind of have to roll forward to help the wheel turn.

Same tyre size and compound on both vehicles? This is not to say this is the cause, because if you think it's heavy, then I imagine there is something up. But we used to have two ae111's, one was on 17s with sticky tyres, the other was on 14s with skinnier, shittier tyres. There was a big difference in the steering ease between the two.
