link g4 trigger issue

Postby TRD_ZERO » Tue Mar 25, 2014 2:19 pm

I'm running link atom on my ae111 blacktop and when warm on idle only I get trigger errors. This only happens on idle as the tuner Glenn kept an eye on the trigger report throughout the tune. Will changing to wasted spark fix this? How detrimental is it at idle? Any ideas what I can do to solve this issue thanks.

Changing to wasted spark probably wont solve it. Ignition system is an output that is driven based on the trigger inputs (and others), and you are having problems with the input.

Assuming you are running the standard blacktop dizzy you could try swapping in another dizzy (dont forget to recheck the timing if you do), that one may just have largish clearances on the pickups and be a bit marginal. Other things that might help are checking the shielding on the lead to the trigger pickups; or just bumping the idle speed up 100rpm or so may also solve the problem, since the pickup output voltage is proportional to the speed the toothed wheel is turning at.

If it idles okay and doesn't have random stalling/misfiring it may not even be worth doing anything about. How often is it getting trigger errors? Several a second or once every few seconds/minutes?

Regarding shielding - it must be only earthed on one side (ECU side).

if it only happens at idle. you could try lower the trigger arming thresholds. or raise if its interference. otherwise you maybe able to physically move the vr sensors closer to the trigger wheel. unsure if its possible on 20v cas. but have done it on a 16v cas (megasquirt fail). moving the vr sensor closer to the wheel will create more voltage at lower rpm. doing this along with raising the arming threshold may solve the problem

also as others said, make sure shielding is good and cas wiring doesn't run near coil, leads or ignitor

The vr sensors are not adjustable on the 20V, it's all one piece.
Lots of people run the 20V dist with no issues on G4 links,
so it's either a CAS wiring or setting problem.

What are the arming thresholds set at for low rpm?'

Shielding as far as i know is fine as i had used the original blacktop loom and just connected the link to the original ecu plug but then Glenn didn't like that and ran a independent shielded cable to the dizzy. That removed the issue mostly but it cropped up just a little. The car doesn't stall just misfire, does a quick dip every so slightly of the revs every now and again say once or twice every minute. So one or two errors every minute. Arming thresholds is beyond me. If you could let me know where to look in the link software i could investigate over the weekend and post back. Dont want to go in there and fiddle with no idea.

ecu settings (on side menu) -> triggers -> trigger 1 or 2 -> trigger arming threshold table

0 and 1000rpm values, are usually .5v and 1v

I have 0.5v and 1.0v for trigger 2,
but 0.2v and 0.5v for trigger 1.
