gas consumption

Postby mega4a » Tue Mar 25, 2014 7:50 pm

i put 40 bucks 98 in the other day but i seem to be using it quicker dunno if i actually am or i just going crazy.

was just wondering what you guys thought so i put 40 bucks in which is about $2.30 a liter or around about that .

so $40 divided by $2.30 is so its about 17 liters you get ?

so i have done about 173 km on that gas is this good economy or nah ?

so using 1 liter for every 10km

mhmmm i found this guess you could say corolla is a small car. these numbers are from http://www.energywise.govt.nz/

Type of new car Best stated fuel economy (litres per 100 km)
Worst stated fuel economy (litres per 100 km)

best - worst

Light car 3.7- 7.6
Small car 3.8-10.5
Medium car 4.6 -13.4
Large car 5.7- 14.9
Compact SUV 5.8-12.5
Medium SUV 5.8-13.2
Large SUV 10.8-13.5

I'd get 120km if that's any help.

Sitting around the 14.3 mark, must have rocks in my head.

I presume he means 120km from 17 litres as per your example.
Short term tests are easy to mess up, fill it slightly less, different weight in boot changing fuel gauge readings etc. Sign up to something like Fuelly and track it over a decent period of time.

My daily is a 1500cc carb, isn't far off that figure!

173km to 17L.. not bad for around town.

$40 at a time is not best way to measure fuel economy.

1) Fill it up to the top,
2) reset the trip meter,
3) drive some substantial distance (preferably full tank, but half will do),
4) Fill it up to the top again,
5) Write down trip meter distance and litres of fuel you just filled up.
6a) divide km per litres and you get km/L
6b) divide litres per km and multiple by 100, and you get L/100km.

Speaking of filling up here is the poll I setup:

I want to see how many people fill up vs how many do $XX at a time...

My 4AGE levin would get about 240km out of 17L on the open road, and about 180km around town, so depends where and how you drive it.

Both my 4A-GE 20v Silvertop and Blacktop engines get 120km per $20 of 95 (9.1 litres). The Silvertop has an auto box and the Blacktop a manual box but both get the same MPG, despite the Blacktop having a few mods and a brand new oxygen sensor. I only ever put $20 at a time, and every time the fuel light comes back on I've done almost bang on 120km. This is 90% city driving.
