Radiator Repair?

Post by TRD_ZERO »

One of my braided lines have rubbed through about 3 horizontal tubes/galleries on my radiator so its leaking. Is there anyway of repairing this? Im thinking its a bit thin to weld but im no welder. Do i have any options or does it just go straight in the bin? Its a full alloy radiator

Photo might help determine answer. If people can tig weld coke cans, i'm sure most things are possible.

Na your not going to get the core welded,
1 easily
2 nicely it's horrible to weld, can't get it clean enough

You can remove those rows and weld them shut at the top and bottom header plates

Or go see Adrian at fenix and get a new one

Have known guys to clamp the damaged cores and crimp with pliers and coat with a 2 pack epoxy glue, don't like the chances of it lasting thou

Adrian currenty has it. He did mention removing those rows but seems like a replacement will be a better option but he only has a plastic tank replacement and not any alloy ones. Im heading down to Tauranga next weekend you think you could attempt welding it up Simon?

I wouldn't attempt to weld the core, more than happy to block the rows up and weld the header plates

I once wacked one of my ali radiators with a downpipe by accident piercing a few rows. I used a loctite metal repair resin you mix it like an epoxy. Never had issues with the repair.. Not my first choice but worked well

I have a tig machine that welds as low as 5 amps, but don't have the skill to do it, or else I'd weld it for you, sorry :(

You can't weld them.
But as above you can take the end tanks off and weld up the runs that are damaged
I've done that a heap of times
