gen3/4 3sgte water pumps

Postby Grrrrrrr! » Thu Mar 27, 2014 11:31 pm

Just unboxed a load of parts i've acquired and one of the itmes is a gen3+ water pump, that has a resin impeller. Accordign to some this is a special st205 WRC water pump.. some say its just a production change. Anybody know what the truth is? The other gen3 pump i have here has a metal impeller, which looks much the same as the gen2 item.

So Mark or anybody else thats handled a few gen3 3sgte water pumps.. is the resin one an off the shelf part, or is it a special high flow pump as some claim?

Image

The one on the right is the one I got sold (slightly different colour), the one on the left looks to be the same as the one in the housing from the gen3 parts motor I got a while back, and looks the same as the gen2 pumps. The resin one look like it would flow more with more blades and less clearance.

For future reference, the resin pump is nothing special, its the st205 water pump, P/N:16100-79236. The metal bladed one is from all other gen3+ 3sgtes. Both are current production and available off the shelf. Not sure why they have two pumps for the same motor, but they do.

Did you find the relevent flow numbers or find info around cavitation due to impeller type?

No, haven't really looked, I'm pretty sure I have seen flow numbers for the gen4 3sgte in a document I found a while ago, so i assume that the standard stainless steel impeller pump.

Wasnt aware there was a resin pump, on the wrc 205 i had the pump that came of was metal impeller. And so was the genuine pump i put on. On three of the later model 205s of mine (96) all the pumps were metal impeller and so was what went on. Hmm. Interesting :0 never heard anything about greater flow tho wouldnt have thought so

Yeah, its a weird one, I could understand if it was all motors after a certain date went to the resin pump, but it only shows for the st205, later 3sgte and 3sges all use 16100-79225 (now 16100-79226)which is the same as the sw20 3sgte pump according to toyodiy. When you ordered the genuine pump did you specifically order for the st205, or did you just ask for a gen 3 water pump?
