Aristo ECU Question

Postby DeeCee » Thu May 29, 2014 6:16 pm

Hi all,

my work colleague is having some issues with his ECU in his 1998 Aristo 2JZ-GE
Apparently he was having trouble a year ago and Toyota bypassed something with a diode or resistor and it has been working fine until recently.

Is he able to get another ECU from another Aristo and replace his faulty ECU? Code 89661-3A410

Though after a quick search on the boards, someone noted a transponder chip in the ECU? Exactly what are we talking here in terms of complexity e.g remove chip, throw away car or can chips be swapped between vehicles easily?

Also, can a 2JZGTE ECU be used (probably not, but worth asking nonetheless as I know zilch about Aristo's)

Thanks
Dave

I didn't think these early ones had a transponder chip/imobiliser built in? You might be alright in that case to just swap ECU's

Early = no transponder chip - will have to ask about his key then.
Do you think a Supra auto GE ECU can be used? Open Q but I'm assuming unlikely with diff pinouts/sensors etc

'98 should be a jzs161, hence why I haven't chimed in. If Im wrong and its a jzs147, swapping Ecus should be fine. Supra Ecus are slightly different but think they do work.

Jason - what does the Mines do? My work colleague was joking about performance, but he might be keen since he sold his porsche a couple of years back.

Scott - it is indeed a JZS161 / JZX16* so sounds like the Supra ECU won't work

*Fuel mapping and Ignition timing optimized
*Speed limiter cut
*Raises rev limit +300rpm
*Raised boost level and made to run on 1 bar ( 14.7psi ) boost safely

Follow up - work colleague disconnected/connected the battery a couple of times to reset the ECU. Started running rough so he gave it a decent rev up and blat on the motorway and his issue has seemed to sort itself out.
