I've always been of the addage that those turbo's just can't move any more air after 6000 rpm I really notice that at the track when firing down a decent straight once your up round that 6000 rpm area there's just nothing left after that. You get a real mid rev range push with them but again after 6 its all over.

Blake its good to see your pushing the boundaries the only other suggestion I'd suggest is a high flow job if you really want to keep those JDM stockers I know Steve Murch did a set for Graham MacDonald Croydon Supra back in the day.The above also rebuilt my US spec turbo's about 3-4 years ago aswell.

PS sorry to hear about the mishap on the dyno also.

i can't high flow them, as they won't qualify as " stock turbos". My first goal is to beat the NZ 'stock turbo' soarer record of 12.3 sec at the drags. The next goal is anything with an 11 in front of it.
As for boost levels, the 17 psi is just the start. I raced for years at 19 psi. The tuner at the time said he couldn't get anymore power out of them as they were beyond efficient. HOWEVER, on the road or track it was a different story, whenever i wound them up to 21-22psi, the car would respond with a perceptible surge forward.
I know these turbos can provide 25 psi plus to the inlet manifold, so they can flow the air. The high boost is just an indication of how much restriction there is through the head. I also think that cams will improve the VE of the motor(30 extra rear kW).

An update. The soarer, with stock turbos with A LOT of breathing mods(photos on page 7 of this thread) attacked the STM dyno today, and ran out of fuel(stock fuel system) at 5000rpm , at which point it was doing 242kW. Projecting to where the graph was heading, they were thinking 280kW.(Apexi power Fc and 98 octane)
So 1000cc injectors (ID1000s)are going in, and a new fuel pump (likely DW300)
Once we get a base figure, a set of cams will join the party.
Many thanks to forum member "LITH", who took the car to be tuned, as i am very busy with work.

No worries, Blake - was good to see it running and doing a good job. The "280kw" number is a bit of a thumbsuck and a hard one to be sure of, all depends on where the turbos start struggling and all that stuff - but it definitely indicates the setup is working well for what it's working with :) Looking forward to seeing how it goes when the E85 goes in and it gets the full rev range, even then it should be a fair weapon.

It would be hard to not be happy with that initial figure, and I bet its a hoot to drive too.

Bring on the new fuel system, and the results that will come will surely be impressive :)

you can be cruising at -20 vacuum, then plant boot, and before you can say "one thousand and one" it was hitting boost cut at 14psi. so very responsive compared to normal.

It was pretty impressive to drive, even though I was just pottering around with it ☺ Was an amusing day, actually.... Drove the best spooling and worst spooling cars I believe I have ever driven back to back haha

An update, the car was on the dyno today, with its E85 fuel system, and delivered 260kW at 4000rpm , but then flatlined from there on. Then it started losing boost, dropping to 19psi, then 17psi. So it turns out the gaskets between the turbos and the turbo manifold are leaking/blown out. So this will need to be rectified(read $$$$ labour)It is possible this blow out was caused by the flanges being slightly warped.
The flat lining was a mystery, until the tuner spotted a damaged cam angle sensor/plug. With a temporary fix, he pushed it back on , and the car ran 290kW at 20 psi, with the aforementioned (pre turbo)exhaust leak. Also, the timing was kept low at the top end (similar to 98 octane) due to the exhaust leak, so definitely more power to be had there. 300-310 kW maybe?
So the power is looking OK at this stage.

Thats great to hear the problem was found and the power is inline with your estimations.

Once you get the manifold flanges skimmed, and some new gaskets etc, you will have a weapon on your hands :)

Looking forward to seeing how this goes when the gaskets etc are sorted - definitely going to be a weapon, the thing was spooling ridiculously well even on petrol.... it's going to be hilarious on E85 :D

i thought it was nitrous oxide that makes things "hilarious" :)

UPDATE.
well the soarer went on the dyno today. Stock turbos, stock cams. Power FC. E85 fuel.
At 21 psi, it made 325kW. peak torque is at approx 3900rpm, and has 260kw by then, so it should be a lot of fun to drive. It is hitting 20 psi by around 3550rpm.
At 22 psi, it lost a fraction of power.(322kw)
at 25psi it dropped to 312kw or so.
so clearly the turbos are out of efficiency, so i will no longer pursue the high boost route(was aiming 25psi or more)
Dyno graph to come.

Such a brilliant setup, and will be amazing to drive it in anger.

Cant wait to see the results of all your hard work, money, and dyno time, Blake.

That is certainly some phenomenal results, well done.

Be interesting to see how long the little ceramic turbine wheels last spinning at that speed...
Does my memory serve me right that E85 runs cooler EGT's than pump? Should help their longevity I presume if so...
