But as Perez pointed out he was still fast enough to keep a Redbull behind him so why retire?

Because choosing to let your driver stay out in a car with failed braking system, thats doing 340kph is not only irresponsible, but downright dangerous.

Its easy enough to keep a Renault behind a Merc on an old school, skinny, power track, but imho, doesnt mean its the correct thing to do.

Hold up, where's the failed braking coming from? I read brake problems, which Pérez and his team said was an adjustment issue. Not failed...
I agree with you 100% based on the facts you state. I don't on the ones I read! :P

Is there updated info? I read an autonews article this morning where Perez was saying it wasn't failure and the car was safe.
I also haven't had a chance to view proper replays

Well you would expect him to say that now, wouldnt you? hehe

The replays from all angles are what is most telling, especially the difference in braking points between Vettel, himself, and Massa....one of these things is not like the other....

I still don't think Perez gets it when it comes to close racing its alright to go hell for leather but he brings danger into the equation with his driving style.

You watch the true pro's the more experienced race inch's from one another but they no when to give and not pull the late movement like Perez seem's to do and he in my eyes is is worst enemy.

Talent is onething and he does have it but for me just lacks experience and maturity he has to learn sometimes its better to give and live to fight another day.

So the Red Bull Ring is upon us...and GP2/3 support races also,.

I cant see the Mercedes being challenged here, given the track layout, and the fact there are only 3 corners where RBR might be able to claw back any advantage...the rest is long straights, hills, and 90 deg corners, so a point and squirt layout should favour Merc and their customer teams like Williams and FI.

Im praying Mitch Evans can get another good weekend under his belt this weekend, as the season is swiftly disappearing, and we all know how hard it is to stay in this sport without solid results, and/or BIG financial backing...

Go Nico, Go Daniel, Go Filipe, Go Mitch :)

Bring on next season this ones a lame duck.

I watched inside line on Sky the other night and basically Alonso was asked if he or the team could challange the Merc dominance and he basically said no we have to build for next season and keep developing.

Bernie up to his tricks again....
Saying he wants teams who struggle with costs to be gone and the bigger teams to run 3 cars.

he is also saying he's unlikely to renew Monzas contract after 2016....

And whammo...Monza commit to spending $10M to upgrade the aging park.

You have to hand it to him, he sure is good at what he does hehehe.

I am frothing at the mouth for this weekend at Silverstone :)

Sure everyone will say its going to be a race betweeen the two Merc's again, but I dont care...the pressure is on Hamilton to deliver a win at home, and Nico is going to do everything possible to stop him...captivating!!!

And another chance for Mitch to get his GP2 season heading in the right direction.

I tell you what the more and more I read about the old Toyota F-1's team involvement in LeMans style hardtop endurance racing gets me more and more interested in that sought of racing.

It seems to me it is more and more related to what is going to appear with regards to road cars.

I also like the idea that Toyota/Lexus have made a major commitment across the board to this style of racing with the TS040 the Code X LFA & seem to have just released a GTE classed RC-F which is good news aswell.

I really like that Toyota are competitive at all those levels across the board especially pushing Audi like they did this year.I think the future looks bright in these categories for Toyota.

A brilliant Qualifying session, where track evolution, and track position was always going to decide pole. Lewis must be shaking his head in disbelief with his rookie error...

And finally MITCH EVANS wins his first GP2 race, convincingly over Jolyon Palmer, and springboards from 8th to 4th in the championship...fingers crossed he can claw his way up from 8th for the sprint race tonight to capitalize on his maiden win :)

Solid results for SVG yesterday in both races with a 5th and a 4th, while Winterbottom has a tough day at the office...roll on this arvo and an even better result :)

I hope Nico takes out the win again tonight in the F1, and Lewis trips over his bottom lip again :)

The GP2 race was awesome. I was so stoked when Mitch kept Palmer behind during the fight at the pit phase. Bloody Beauty. He clearly had the pace at the end. It would be interesting to know if he was playing the long game during the first stint, it looked like it, he was not over driving.

What a cock up by Lewis, he can't get much right it seems. I almost feel bad for the guy. He threw it away in 2007, only won in 2008 due to match fixing as far as I'm concerned. and his 2014 challenge is slipping.

Im gona say Lewis, Nico, Danny Ric if he can gain some places in the first 2-3 laps otherwise Vettel for 3rd

With Revvy for Jenson if its wet

That was an awesome lap by Nico

Reminds of Hilux ute's you see on the road. 20" rims & tiny brake rotors & calipers.

There is no benefit in running bigger rims unless you are running bigger rotors/calipers. F1 Brake Rotors/Calipers are smallish due to the fact the car weights only 600kg or so. They also use carbon rotors & pads. So you don't need large rotors/calipers on a modern F1 Car.I don't see the point apart from cost cutting for the tyre manufacturers.I know Michelin were very keen on 18" tyres.

They are race tyres that last X number of laps & they are slicks with a lot of downforce to improve grip of the tyres.. I can't see how Tyre Companies say by going to 18 inch tyres, there is more road cars relevance.

I like the old 13's rim with fatty tyres. Tyres is what makes contact with the road. Large wheels do nothing for performance.
