GTZ intercooler maping

Postby natenz_natenz » Fri Jul 11, 2014 11:53 am

hi

am wondering if anyone out there has mapped where intercooler piping on a supercharged 4agze goes?
Have looked at BAZDA s car and have the intake sided sorted but its a bit tight between the supercharger and intercooler inlet.
obviously trying to keep it away from the exhaust and also trying not to cut too much to fit it.

any ideas or photos of where others you know have done it would be great.

Many options, most involve cutting.

You could fit a narrower radiator (and remove AC if you still have it) which would mean you don't have to cut anything. Other option is to move the battery and route through there. You'd be best to use an intercooler with inlet and outlet on the same side.

In saying that, I wouldn't recommend it.

On a 4agze that still has the supercharger (rare as that is these days  ) it ruins throttle response due to the position of the throttle body. i.e. the engine runs on for a short period after you've closed the throttle due to all that extra plumbing. Unlike a turbo where the throttlebody is after the turbo (well on modern cars anyway).

Its fine but a bit annoying, I did this in an AE86 with 4AGZE and smallish VR4 intercooler and found it annoying.

Front mounting a SC setup is not ideal at all.
Delayed throttle response is the main problem.

I would ditch that setup and run a water to air IC off a early GT4 or a Subaru.
You can mount the Tank inside the engine bay and the radiator would mount in the front bumper. If your after that look then you can get a nice alloy radiator in the front bumper.

The water to air is the best option for a SC setup.
