They drop out, but not on a subframe as such.

You'd have to lift the body up a fair way to clear the top of the engine etc, you can do it this way but unless you have access to a car hoist to lift the whole car off the ground then lifting engine etc out the top would be by far the safest/easiest method

Yes - I have done this with a crashed 4age trueno AE101
Put the running gear into a 4afe Marino with siezed engine.
Used a hoist
NOTE - i did a lot of prep for this swap
- removed/disconnected radiator/cooling system, fuel lines, electrics/loom, exhaust, brake lines... i.e. anything connected to engine/drivetrain
Donor trueno onto hoist - unbolted subframe, and suspension tophats (subframe rested on a couple of blocks)
lifted car from subframe, dragged it out of the way.
lowered car so front rested on big trolley jack and wheeled it out of the workshop

ReceivingMarino onto hoist - removed engine drivetrain in same way as above
- dragged trueno engine/drivetrain/subframe across under marino
- lowered car onto subframe and lined everything up ready to be bolted

Then refitted radiator/cooling system, fuel lines, electrics/loom, exhaust, brake lines

The basic swap of subframes took maybe 3 hours - plus perhaps another 1 1/2 days disconnecting and reconnecting all the little things
I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

I just pulled an AE101 apart, tried lifting the engine and box out together with an engine crane. Next to impossible, maybe with a load leveler to put it on an angle...

Frustratingly close.

Found a lot of things that incredibly tight access, rear engine mount, various wiring plugs under the intake.
Put me off putting a new engine and parted it out instead which I made more money out've than replacing engine and selling whole car.

Better to disconnect loom from inside the car (there are 2 or 3 plugs) and from fuse box (1 or 2), than from the each sensor.
Engine should come out with loom without removing any ancillaries (maybe A/C if you don't want to drain that) ...

When I did mine, I had a leveller and it made it super easy. I disconnected every plug in the engine bay, unbolted the AC pump and took the whole lot out in one hit

I got angry with most of the 4AGE's I have attempted to pull out with and engine crane and ended up destroying the engine mounts on the chassis on most of the wrecks I have parted out
