Started it for the first time since march. Then found Ive still got a leak between turbo and manifold, and one of my park brake shoe locaters has fallen apart and disintergrated.

Do you mean those little round locking things that you push in and twist to lock?

yes, but the whole thing will need to be acquired, spring, pin, washer and locking cap

I might have to head to pick a part because I need a couple of the little locking caps. Dam rust

What car were you driving yesterday?
The R&T weather gods sure smiled once again, and once the track finally dried out, it was a good day.
I decided to give a new more aggressive brake material a go, and also, given the weather forecast, I wanted to see how my new Nitto NT05's performed out there. I couldnt seem to get any heat into them for the first few sessions, and thus was locking up and engaging the ABS on most heavy stops (something I have NEVER done in this car) but eventually, once they had a litttle heat in them, they stopped locking up as easily, but I still needed to modulate brake pedal pressure alot through out the day compared to other tyres I have used.
I couldnt seem to get the pressures quite right during the day either, with endless tyre howl and very little grip, front of rear, but surprisingly enough, with not a single lap being close to clean, I managed a 1.21.4 which is only half a second off my best time ever on full slicks lol. It felt like I was going to be in the 24's or 25's with the way the car felt out there, but clearly, things can be deceiving.
Next round, I will play with my pressures a little more and see if I can find a sweet spot where I can atleast get some front end bite out of them, and some rear end grip out of corners too.

Thanks Mark, I thought that was the case, as I had heard you mention his name a couple of times at other track days

Re: What did you do to your car today?
I've just got a set of Nitto NT01's 205/50/15 on my AW11 and yesterday at Taupo I think I've got the pressures right. I started off with cold 26 in the front and 28 in the rear. Rear went quite loose after about 4 laps on track 1. Checked pressures and rears were up to 35 and fronts 31 hot. Dropped them all to 30 and it's good. Cold pressures are 26 front and 25 rear. First couple of racedays the grip wasn't particularly good but it's coming right now so hang in there.Mr Ree wrote:I decided to give a new more aggressive brake material a go, and also, given the weather forecast, I wanted to see how my new Nitto NT05's performed out there. .....

I've been told that Nitto NT01's get beater in terms of grip the more worn they get, and keep this trend until they are worn out. So definitely don't write them off after first use.

Re: What did you do to your car today?
The NT01 are a 100 tread wear though, compared to the NT05 which is a 200, so Im certainly not expecting Semi slick performance out of them, Ill just have to keep playing with the pressures until I get them right, but from everything I have read online about them, from personal reviews etc, they seem to like a higher pressure, and if run too low, tend to chew out the sides of the centre strip. The general consensus seems to be around 38psi hot on cars with similar weight, and tyre size to mine, but at that pressure mine felt extremely loose at both ends lol.

Re: What did you do to your car today?
Not my car, but hopefully doing the same thing in the future. Finished 99% of the wiring on a mates 93 NA SW20 with a 90 Turbo engine. Just waiting on a few mechanical parts and it will be ready to the start. The 1% is just the Speedo sensor on the gearbox as the turbo engine was mechanical and the car is electronic.

Reith if you want more speed work on the front end for me I noticed a huge difference when widening the track in the front. You need to get the car more pointy and carry more speed in the braking area to the mid corner.Don't worry about the rear so much with the 265 slick you are using the car will hold on better than you think.
Get the car as above I guarantee you crack well into the teens round Manfield I guarantee it.

Hi mate. I wasnt running slicks on the day, as it was another wet morning, so there was no point swapping wheels really, and I really wanted to see how my new road tyres would stand up to a little bit of hard track work.
The new front tyres are a 255 so not quite as wide as the 265 slick, but about as wide as I can go on a 8.5" rim, the slick would be a little fat for it, but I might try and find another pair of 9.5" rims to use on the front with a wider slick for track days where sessions are longer than 3 laps.
My best lap actually turned out to be a 1.20.1 so very close to cracking into the teens....not long to go now, and hopefully will be able to get it done in November at round 4
