Found the difference between a 7AFE block and a 4AFE block,
but only after the engine was 99% of the way into the car,
only to realise that IT DOES NOT FIT!!! Argggh.

The 7A has part of the block machined away to allow for the diff to sit of the 4WD carib's,
so time to take to the 4A with a grinder

Bit of a story:
Went to go to the supermarket this morning and as I was backing up I heard a boom and felt the car drop down. Got out to check it out and saw that 3 wheels were missing wheel nuts and the wheels were almost off. As a result, the brake rotors were sitting on the wheel rims and the studs were stuck in the wheels at an awkward angle. Photo isn't from a very good angle - Imagine ridiculous positive camber.

Image

I panicked and grabbed some scissor jacks to try and get the wheels off ASAP. Got the 2 RH ones off but then the jacks fell over (due to soft grass and only 1 wheel attached)

Image

Got the LF wheel off and on again properly and got 4 people to lift the car so that the jacks could be re-positioned (with wood base supports now that I was thinking properly). Bent the brake shroud back into place and put the wheels back on.

My guess is that someone was trying to steal my wheels and maybe got spooked by something and ran. They stole 11 of my new wheels nuts and stripped the thread on a stud (don't know how?). Luckily it was parked on grass so there was no damage to anything underneath. If I had parked on the street, it could have been worse.

Got a set of locking wheel nuts with an oddball key. Hopefully that will deter them from trying again because I can't really think of much else.

8O Shit, lucky that didn't happen when you were driving, even at 5-10kph. Good call going for lock nuts.

Hell yeah, wheels coming off at speed is not fun!

Today I freed up the rear brakes on the RX-7 and pumped the tyres up...now I can actually move it freely! Hopefully engine bits are done this week...

Eek :(

Even though its a little OTT, I try to check my wheel nuts after each session, just to be extra safe.

I never used to check wheel nuts regularly at the track,

but was at a 2 day meeting and when we got there on the sunday it was wet-ish so we changed the wheels,
luckily as the back two were no more then finger tight when we went to change them.
Had done two sessions on saturday fine and if it wasn't for the wet I wouldn't have checked.

Now I always check before each session, but have never found them loose again.

Bought a Megasquirt recently, so on Tuesday I figured I would swap my adub over to coil packs now and get it running right before using them on the project engine. Cue headaches.

No spark. After some bench testing, it appears that my igniter is bung. Rather than search for a new one, I decided to send the ECU back and get Bosch coil drivers installed, so that I can hook them up directly to the ECU. Watch this space.

Did a check over of the AE70, all fluids, tyre pressures, swapped on some indictor lenses I purchased from Japan like a year ago, and went for it's first WOF under my ownership. Passed! 8) Just need to replace a front brake hose at some stage. So will grab a pair of those in the next couple of weeks and replace those and flush the whole system.

Not long till summer cruising.

Did front wheel bearing on Primera, the amount of play was pretty scary! Also did lower balljoint and front crank seal while I was there, due to complete enfuckulation of said parts. Hopefully no more puddles under the car!

Got the rolla' rego sorted.

Then added some go fast bits.

I was going to change the oil too, but the only filter I have in stock doesn't appear to be compatible. I may drop the current one off though and see for myself, the internet isn't always right.

Washed, tuned, got bigger Michelins for grip, went for a drive. Eyeing up FMIC's to drop boost temp. Kinda want a black one. Not keen on shiny atm. Actually able to put power down now. Just need to roll the rear a bit to stop it rubbing when it squats.

Brought a new one.

07 Mazda MPV 23T

Now I just need to learn Japanese to figure out all the cool JDM options. Its only a year newer than the last but came with heaps more factory options - Bose, bluetooth roof mounted DVD etc.

As cool as a people mover gets.....and Turbo!!

well... it's better than an AW10 with a 3A I guess! Those FEs were always surprisingly torquey.
